Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Lexus ES300 1992-1993

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain engine coolant
  4.  
  5. Disconnect accelerator cable from throttle linkage.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect throttle cable from throttle linkage (A/T).
  8.  
  9. Remove air cleaner cap, air flow meter and air cleaner hose:
    1. Disconnect the air flow meter connector.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the coil cord clamp.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the air hoses.
    6.  
    7. Loosen the air cleaner hose clamp bolt.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the air cleaner cap clips.
    10.  
    11. Remove the air cleaner cap and air flow meter together with the air cleaner hose.
    12.

  11. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the water bypass hose and emission control vacuum hoses.
  14.  
  15. Remove the two bolts, two nuts, throttle body and gasket.

To install:

  1. Install a new gasket and the throttle body with the two bolts and two nuts. Tighten to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the water bypass hose and emission control vacuum hoses.
  4.  
  5. Connect the throttle position sensor connector.
  6.  
  7. Install the air cleaner cap, air flow meter and air cleaner hose:
    1. Connect the air cleaner hose, and install the air cleaner cap and air flow meter with the four clips.
    2.  
    3. Tighten the air cleaner hose clamp bolt.
    4.  
    5. Connect the air hoses.
    6.  
    7. Connect the coil cord clamp.
    8.  
    9. Connect the air flow meter connector.
    10.

  9. Connect and adjust the throttle cable (A/T).
  10.  
  11. Connect and adjust the accelerator cable.
  12.  
  13. Refill engine coolant.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  

Specific to:

Lexus ES300 1994

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain engine coolant
  4.  
  5. Disconnect accelerator cable from throttle linkage.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect throttle cable from throttle linkage.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the PCV hose.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the 2 hose clamps, and remove the air cleaner hose.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the IAC valve connector.
  16.  
  17. Remove the hose clamp.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the following vacuum hoses:

    Vacuum hose (from charcoal canister)
     
    Vacuum hose (from port R of EGR vacuum modulator)
     
    Vacuum hose (from port E of EGR vacuum modulator)
     
    Vacuum hose (from upper port of TVV)
     
    Vacuum hose (from lower port of TVV)

  21. Disconnect the following hoses:

    Water bypass hose (from intake manifold)
     
    Water bypass hose (from water inlet housing)
     
    Air assist hose

  23. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts, EGR gas temperature sensor bracket, throttle body and gasket.

To install:

  1. Place a new gasket on the air intake chamber.
  2.  
  3. Install the throttle body, EGR gas temperature sensor bracket with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Tighten to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the following hoses:

    Water bypass hose (from intake manifold)
     
    Water bypass hose (from water inlet housing)
     
    Air assist hose
     

  6.  
  7. Connect the following vacuum hoses:

    Vacuum hose (from charcoal canister)
     
    Vacuum hose (from port R of EGR vacuum modulator)
     
    Vacuum hose (from port R of EGR vacuum modulator)
     
    Vacuum hose (from upper port of TVV)
     
    Vacuum hose (from lower port of TVV)
     

  8.  
  9. Install the hose clamp.
  10.  
  11. Connect the IAC valve connector.
  12.  
  13. Connect the throttle position sensor connector.
  14.  
  15. Install the air cleaner hose with the 2 hose clamps.
  16.  
  17. Connect the PCV hose.
  18.  
  19. Connect the throttle cable.
  20.  
  21. Connect the accelerator cable.
  22.  
  23. Refill engine coolant.
  24.  
  25. Connect the negative battery cable.
  26.  

Specific to:

Lexus ES300 1995-1998

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain engine coolant
  4.  
  5. Disconnect accelerator cable.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect throttle cable.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the PCV hose.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the 2 hose clamps, and remove the air cleaner hose.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the IAC valve connector.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect any necessary vacuum hoses, as applicable.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the following hoses:

    Water bypass hose (from intake manifold)
     
    Water bypass hose (from water inlet housing)
     
    Air assist hose

  21. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts, EGR gas temperature sensor bracket, throttle body and gasket.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following:
    1. Place a new gasket on the air intake chamber.
    2.  
    3. Tighten the throttle body mounting bolts and nuts to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
