Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    CAUTION
    Before servicing components near or affected by the SRS (air bag) system, read and observe all SRS Service Precautions. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), in the Chassis Electrical section. Failure to observe all precautions may result in accidental airbag deployment, personal injury, or death.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least 3 minutes for the SRS memory to drain.

  5. Remove the front pillar garnish.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front inside scuff plate.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front door opening cover.
  10.  
  11. Remove the cowl side trim.
  12.  
  13. Remove the steering wheel.
  14.  
  15. Remove the safety pad No. 2:
    1. Remove the 2 screws and the hood lock release lever.
    2.  
    3. Remove the fuse cover.
    4.  
    5. Remove room temperature sensor then disconnect the connector.
    6.  
    7. Remove the 4 bolts and the safety pad No. 2.

  25. Remove the glove compartment door:
    1. Remove the glove compartment door finish plate inside the glove compartment. Take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    3. Pull up the connector.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the passenger airbag connector.
    6.  
    7. Remove the 3 nuts and the door.
    8.

  27. Remove the glove compartment:
    1. Remove the 3 screws.
    2.  
    3. Remove the instrument panel by pulling.
    4.

  29. Remove the front passenger airbag assembly:
    1. Remove the 4 bolts.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 bolts and the front passenger airbag assembly.
      CAUTION
      Do not store the front passenger airbag assembly with the airbag door facing down. Never disassemble the front passenger airbag assembly. The 2 bolts to the instrument panel have been anti-rust treated. When the front passenger airbag assembly is removed, always replace the bolts with new ones.

  31. Using a taped screwdriver, remove the console upper panel.

    1. Pry open the 2 flush caps with the screwdriver.

    3. Remove the 2 screws.
    4.  
    5. Using the screwdriver, remove the panel.

    7. Disconnect the connector.

    1. Disconnect the connectors.

    3. Remove the bolts.

    5. Remove the connector holders.

    7. Remove the 8 bolts, 2 nuts and the instrument panel.

  57. Remove the bolts, nuts, and instrument panel brace No. 1 and brace No. 2.

  59. Remove the instrument panel reinforcement:
    1. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and the J/B No. 1.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 bolts and the J/B No. 3.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 2 screws and the J/B No. 6.
    6.  
    7. Remove the 4 bolts, 4 nuts and the reinforcement.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

  9. Remove the front door opening trim covers.

  17. Remove the 3 screws and steering column covers.

  19. Disconnect the connector, remove the 4 screws, and remove the combination switch.

  21. Remove the No. 1 lower panel:
    1. Remove the 2 screws and hood release lever.
    2.  
    3. Remove the bolt, screw and No.1 lower panel, then disconnect the connectors.

    1. Using a taped screwdriver, remove the lower cover.

    3. Pull up the connector.

    5. Disconnect the passenger airbag connector. Take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    7. Remove the No. 2 under cover.

    1. Remove the 2 bolts from the instrument panel reinforcement.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 4 nuts and front passenger airbag assembly.
      CAUTION
      Do not store the front passenger airbag assembly with the airbag deployment direction facing down. Never disassemble the front passenger airbag assembly. Make sure that the front passenger airbag assembly is installed to the specified torque. When installing the instrument panel, take care that the airbag wire harness does not interfere with other parts and is not pinched between other parts.

  43. Using a taped screwdriver, remove the upper console panel.

    1. Remove the box bottom No. 2 mat.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 screws and rear console box, and disconnect the connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove the rear cup holder and rear ash receptacle.

  51. Remove the radio and A/C control panel assembly.

  59. Remove lower No. 2 finish panel retainer.

  61. Remove nozzle side defroster No. 1.

  63. Remove instrument panel safety pad:
    1. Using a taped screwdriver, remove the nozzle side defroster No. 2.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the connectors.
    4.  
    5. Remove the bolts.
    6.  
    7. Remove the connector holders.
    8.  
    9. Remove the bolt, nut, screw and safety pad.

  65. Remove the instrument panel reinforcement:
    1. Remove the nut and No. 1 finish panel mounting bracket.

    3. Remove the 4 nuts and No. 1 floor brace.

    5. Remove the 2 nuts and No. 2 brace.

    7. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and junction block.
    8.  
    9. Remove the 3 bolts, 4 nuts and reinforcement.
