Power Door Locks



Diagnosis & Testing

Specific to:

Lexus ES300 1992-1996

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Check door lock motor:
    1. Remove the door trim and service hole cover
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the door lock motor connector.
    4.  
    5. Connect positive lead to terminal 7(5) and negative lead terminal 5(2) of door lock motor connector.
    6.  
    7. Connect positive lead to terminal 5(2) and negative lead to terminal 7(5) of door lock motor connector.
      NOTE
      Perform inspection in a short time (within 2 seconds). The terminal number without bracket is for the Front; the number with bracket is for the Rear.

  5. Check door lock control switch:
    1. Disconnect the door lock control switch connector.
    2.  
    3. Check continuity between terminals 2(3), 1(1), and 4(2) of door lock control switch connector, when door lock control switch is pressed to the lock side, and unlock side and not pressed.
      NOTE
      The terminal number without brackets is for the LH, the number with brackets is for the RH.

Specific to:

Lexus ES300 1997-1999

  1. Inspect driver-s door lock control switch continuity. If continuity is not as specified, replace the switch.

  3. Inspect driver-s door lock control switch circuit.

    1. Disconnect the connector from the switch and inspect the connector on the wire harness side. If the circuit is not as specified, inspect the circuits connected to other parts.

      Tester Connection: 7-Ground, Condition: Constant, Specified Condition: Continuity
       
      Tester Connection: 4-Ground, Condition: Constant, Specified Condition: Battery Positive Voltage
       
      Tester Connection: 12-Ground, Condition: Constant, Specified Condition: Battery Positive Voltage

  5. Inspect passenger-s door lock control switch continuity. If continuity is not as specified, replace the switch.

  7. Inspect passenger-s door lock control switch circuit.
    1. Disconnect the connector from the switch and inspect the connector on the wire harness side. If the circuit is not as specified, inspect the circuits connected to other parts.

  9. Inspect motor operation.
    1. Connect the positive lead from the battery to terminal 3 and the negative lead to terminal 2, and check that the door lock link moves to UNLOCK position.
    2.  
    3. Reverse the polarity and check that the door lock link moves to LOCK position.
    4.  
    5. If operation is not as specified, replace the door lock assembly.

  11. Inspect door lock assembly circuit.
    1. Disconnect the connector from the switch and inspect the connector on the wire harness side. If the circuit is not as specified, inspect the circuits connected to other parts.

      Tester Connection: 1-Ground, Condition: Constant, Specified Condition: Continuity
       
      Tester Connection: 2-Ground, Condition: Constant, Specified Condition: Battery Positive Voltage
       
      Tester Connection: 3-Ground, Condition: Constant, Specified Condition: Battery Positive Voltage

Removal & Installation
Door Lock Motor

Specific to:

Lexus ES300 1992-1996

  1. Remove the front door trim panel. Refer to Front Door Trim Panel Removal & Installation.
  2.  
  3. Remove the window regulator. Refer to Power Window Motor & Regulator Removal & Installation.
  4.  
  5. Remove the door lock:
    1. Disconnect the two links from the outside handle and key cylinder.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove three screws and the door lock.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following:
    1. Apply adhesive to three screws. (Part No.08833-00070, THREE BOND 1324 or equivalent)
    2.  
    3. Tighten the screws to 48 inch lbs. (5 Nm).

Lexus ES300 1997-1999

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Remove the front door trim panel. Refer to Front Door Trim Panel Removal & Installation.
  4.  
  5. Remove the window regulator. Refer to Power Window Motor & Regulator Removal & Installation.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolt and door glass guide.

  9. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and mirror bracket.

  11. Remove the door lock:
    1. Disconnect the 2 links from the outside handle and key cylinder.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove the bolt.
    6.  
    7. Remove the 3 screws and door lock.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following:
    1. Install the door glass guide and tighten the bolt to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
    2.  
    3. When installing the door lock, apply adhesive to the 3 screws. (Part No.08833-00070, THREE BOND 1324 or equivalent), and tighten the bolts and screws to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Apply MP grease to the sliding and rotating parts of the door lock.
    6.
