Specific to:

Lexus ES300 1992-1996

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds to perform any work on the vehicle once the negative battery cable has been disconnected.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.

  5. Place a drain pan under the hydraulic motor and disconnect the pressure hose from the motor.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the radiator upper hose.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the hydraulic motor return hose.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water inlet pipe.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the two oil hoses from the oil cooler pipes.
  14.  
  15. On Canadian models, remove the No. 7 relay block.

  17. Remove the cruise control actuator wire from the clamp.

  19. Remove the 2 upper radiator mounting brackets.

  21. Remove the radiator and cooling fan as an assembly.

To install:

  1. Install the radiator supports.

  3. Install the lower radiator hose and the oil cooler hoses to the radiator.
  4.  
  5. Install the radiator and cooling fan as an assembly.
  6.  
  7. Install the 2 radiator upper mounting brackets and tighten the bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm). After installation, check that the rubber cushion of the support is not depressed.

  9. Install the cruise control actuator wire to the clamp.
  10.  
  11. If removed, install the No. 7 relay block.
  12.  
  13. Connect the oil cooler and lower radiator hoses .
  14.  
  15. Connect the hydraulic motor return hose and the upper radiator hose.
  16.  
  17. Use new gaskets and connect the pressure hose to the hydraulic motor. Tighten the union bolt to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Refill the engine with coolant.
  20.  
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
  22.  
  23. Refill the cooling fan (power steering) reservoir tank with fluid.
  24.  
  25. Connect the negative battery cable.
  26.  
  27. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  28.  
  29. Bleed the cooling fan hydraulic system and the cooling system.
  30.  
  31. Check the automatic transmission fluid level. Do not overfill.
  32.  
  33. Recheck the engine coolant level.
  34.  

Specific to:

Lexus ES300 1997-1999

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds to perform any work on the vehicle once the negative battery cable has been disconnected.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. On Canadian models, disconnect the relay block (for daytime running light system) from battery hold-down clamp.

  7. Disconnect the radiator upper hose.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water inlet pipe.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the A/T oil cooler hoses from the oil cooler pipes.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the No. 1 and No.2 cooling fan connectors.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the No. 1 ECT switch wire connector.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 upper radiator supports.
  18.  
  19. Remove the radiator and cooling fan as an assembly.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following:
    1. Tighten the upper radiator support bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Refill the fluids.
    4.  
    5. Bleed the cooling system.
    6.  
    7. Check for leaks.
