Removal & Installation



4.2L Engine
  1. Remove the transmission.
    NOTE
    Note the position and the direction of the engine flywheel before removal.

  2.  
  3. Remove the flywheel bolts.
  4.  
  5. Remove the flywheel.
  6.  
  7. Clean and Inspect the flywheel.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Add threadlock to the new flywheel bolts.

  3. Install the flywheel and secure the flywheel with the new bolts. Tighten the bolts in sequence, as follows:
    1. First pass: 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
    2.  
    3. Final pass: An additional 50 degrees, with a torque angle meter
    4.

  5. Install the transmission.
  6.  

5.3L & 6.0L Engines
  1. Remove the transmission.
  2.  
  3. Note the position and direction of the engine flywheel before removal.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine flywheel bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine flywheel.
  8.  
  9. Clean and inspect the engine flywheel.
  10.  

To install:


NOTE
The flywheel does not use a locating pin for alignment and will not initially seat against the crankshaft flange, but will be pulled onto the crankshaft by the engine flywheel bolts. This procedure requires a three stage tightening process.

  1. Install the engine flywheel to the crankshaft.
  2.  
  3. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent to the threads of the flywheel bolts.
