Knuckles

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel.
  4.  
  5. On 4WD vehicles, remove wheel center cap, if equipped, and the drive axle nut and washer
  6.  
  7. Remove the wheel hub and bearing.
  8.  
  9. Remove the outer tie rod retaining nut.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller.
  12.  
  13. Remove the brake hose bracket retaining bolts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the brake hose bracket from the steering knuckle.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring harness bracket from the steering knuckle.
  18.  
  19. Remove the upper control arm to the steering knuckle pinch bolt and nut.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the upper control arm from the steering knuckle.
  22.  
  23. Remove the lower ball joint retaining nut.
  24.  
  25. Remove the steering knuckle from the lower control arm.
  26.  
  27. Remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle.
  28.  

To install:

  1. Install the steering knuckle to the lower control arm.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower ball joint retaining nut and tighten to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the upper control arm to the steering knuckle.
  6.  
  7. Install upper control arm pinch bolt and nut and tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring harness bracket to the steering knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Install the brake hose bracket to the steering knuckle.
  12.  
  13. Install the brake hose bracket retaining bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
  16.  
  17. Install the new outer tie rod retaining nut and tighten to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm) on 2WD models, or 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm) on 4WD models.
  18.  
  19. Install the wheel hub and bearing.
  20.  
  21. On 4WD vehicles, install the drive axle nut and tighten to 103 ft. lbs. (140 Nm), then install the center cap.
  22.  
  23. Install the tire and wheel.
  24.  
  25. Lower the vehicle.
  26.  
  27. Adjust the front toe.
  28.
