Exc. EXT & XL

WARNING
Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.


CAUTION
Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.


NOTE
If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Ensure the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cargo net, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Remove the luggage/cargo shelf assembly, if equipped.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 2 screws that retain the right sound insulator panel to the instrument panel (I/P) and partially remove the insulator panel. Remove the electrical connector retaining clip from the back side of the insulator panel, if equipped and remove the insulator panel from the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Starting at the rear of the front door sill plate(s), use a flat-bladed tool in order to release the 5 retaining tabs and remove the sill plate from the door frame. If removing the left sill plate, remove the sill plate from the hood release handle. Remove any retaining tabs that remain attached to the door frame.
  14.  
  15. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to release the 3 rear door sill plate retaining tabs and remove the rear door sill plate from the door frame. Remove any retaining tabs that remain attached to the door frame.
    NOTE
    Remove the headliner and the headliner harness as an assembly. Do NOT cut or splice the headliner harness. Cutting or splicing the harness may damage the coax cable, resulting in poor radio performance.

  17. Remove the door opening weatherstrip where it interferes with molding removal and remove the center pillar garnish molding by releasing the 4 retaining clips, then disconnect the electrical connector from the temperature sensor, if equipped.
  18.  
  19. Remove the windshield garnish moldings by disengaging the retaining clips.
  20.  
  21. Remove the video display, if equipped.
  22.  
  23. Remove the overhead console as follows:


    1. Remove the dome lamp lenses by gently prying the lenses from the console.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 screws that retain the console to the roof panel.
    4.  
    5. Release the front retaining tabs.
    6.  
    7. Lower the console and disconnect the electrical connectors as needed.
    8.  
    9. Remove the console from the vehicle
    10.

  25. Remove the sunshades from the headliner.
  26.  
  27. If equipped with OnStar®, perform the following procedure:
    1. Disconnect the navigation antenna cable from the communication interface module.
    2.  
    3. Remove the navigation antenna cable from the right side door rocker panel attachments.
    4.  
    5. Remove the navigation antenna cable from the right center pillar.

  29. Remove the following headliner harness clips from the left center pillar:

    The center pillar harness clips (4)
     
    The center pillar harness clips (3)
     
    The center pillar harness clips (1)

  31. Remove the center pillar harness ground bolt (2).

  33. Remove the harness from the left center pillar.
  34.  
  35. Remove the rear seats.

  37. Remove the headliner harness retaining clips (2) from the rocker panel and floor panel.
  38.  
  39. Remove the center pillar headliner harness electrical connector from the bussed electrical center, and the block base from the floor panel.
  40.  
  41. Reach underneath the carpet and remove the headliner harness electrical connector (1) from the instrument panel (I/P) wire harness.
  42.  
  43. Disconnect the inside rear view mirror electrical connector.
  44.  
  45. Disconnect the rain sensor electrical connector, if equipped.
  46.  
  47. Disconnect the navigation antenna electrical connector, if equipped.
  48.  
  49. Remove the cargo shade/cover.
  50.  
  51. Remove the cargo net retaining knobs.
  52.  
  53. Remove the bolt that retains the seat belt upper guide to the body.
  54.  
  55. Remove the rear upper quarter trim panel from the vehicle.
  56.  
  57. Remove the coat hooks from the roof panel.
  58.  
  59. Remove the 2 push pins from the rear of the headliner.
  60.  
  61. Remove the covers on the assist handle base, remove the 2 screws and remove assist handles from the roof panel.
  62.  
  63. Fully recline the bucket seats.
  64.  
  65. With the aid of an assistant, release the interlocking strips that retain the headliner to the roof panel.

  67. If the vehicle is equipped with a sunroof, partially lower the headliner and disconnect the sunroof assembly electrical connector.
  68.  
  69. With the aid of an assistant, remove the headliner from the vehicle.
  70.  

To install:

  1. With the aid of an assistant, install the headliner into the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. If the vehicle is equipped with a sunroof, partially raise the headliner and connect the sunroof assembly electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. With the aid of an assistant, fully raise the headliner and install the left inboard sunshade retaining clip.
  6.  
  7. Install the right rear push pin.
  8.  
  9. Install the left rear push pin.
  10.  
  11. Position the assist handles to the roof panel, install the 2 fasteners and tighten to 18 inch lbs. (2 Nm), then install the covers.
  12.  
  13. Install the coat hooks to the roof panel.
  14.  
  15. Install the rear upper quarter trim panel to the vehicle and install the screw that retains the rear upper quarter trim panel to the body. Tighten the rear upper quarter trim panel screw to 18 inch lbs. (2 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the seat belt retractor to the body.
  18.  
  19. Install the bolt that retains the rear seat belt upper guide to the body and tighten the bolt to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Install the cargo net retaining knobs.
  22.  
  23. Connect the navigation antenna electrical connector, if equipped.
  24.  
  25. Connect the rain sensor electrical connector, if equipped.
  26.  
  27. Connect the inside rear view mirror electrical connector.
  28.  
  29. If the vehicle is NOT equipped with a sunroof, seat the 2 interlocking strips.

  31. If the vehicle is equipped with a sunroof, seat the 6 interlocking strips.

  33. Reach underneath the carpet and remove the headliner harness electrical connector from the I/P wire harness.
  34.  
  35. Install the center pillar headliner harness electrical connector to the bussed electrical center, and the block base to the floor panel.
  36.  
  37. Install the headliner harness retaining clips to the rocker panel and the floor panel.
  38.  
  39. Install the headliner harness to the left center pillar.
  40.  
  41. Install the headliner harness clips to the center pillar.
  42.  
  43. Install the ground terminals and the ground bolt to the center pillar, then tighten the bolt to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  44.  
  45. If equipped with OnStar® perform the following procedure:
    1. Install the navigation antenna cable to the right center pillar.
    2.  
    3. Install the navigation antenna cable to the right side door sill attachments.
    4.  
    5. Install the navigation antenna cable to the communication interface module.
    6.  

  46.  
  47. Install the sunshades to the headliner.
  48.  
  49. Install the overhead console to the roof as follows:


    1. Position the console to the roof panel.
    2.  
    3. Connect the electrical connectors as needed.
    4.  
    5. Seat the front retaining tabs.
    6.  
    7. Install the 2 screws retaining the console to the roof panel and tighten to 10 inch lbs. (1.2 Nm).
    8.

  51. Install the video display, if equipped. Tighten the retaining bolts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  52.  
  53. Install the windshield garnish moldings by engaging the retaining clips.
  54.  
  55. Connect the electrical connector to the temperature sensor, if equipped, then install the center pillar trim panels by engaging the 4 garnish molding retaining tabs to the center pillar.
  56.  
  57. Fully install the door opening weatherstrip
  58.  
  59. Align the retaining tabs to the door frame slots and push down on the rear side door sill plate(s), seating the retaining tabs to the door frame. Ensure that all 3 retaining tabs are attached to the sill plate.
  60.  
  61. Install the front side door sill plates by starting at the front of the sill plate and pushing down on the sill plate, seating the retaining tabs to the door frame. Ensure that all 5 retaining tabs are securely attached to the sill plate. If installing the left sill plate, position the hood release handle through the sill plate.
  62.  
  63. Install the insulator panel to the I/P and tighten the retaining screws to 22 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm).
  64.  
  65. Install the rear seats and tighten the rear seat mounting nuts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  66.  
  67. Install the luggage/cargo shelf assembly, if equipped.
  68.  
  69. Install the cargo net, if equipped.
  70.  
  71. Connect the negative battery cable.
  72.  

EXT & XL

WARNING

  11. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to release the 3 rear door sill plate retaining tabs and remove the rear door sill plate from the door frame. Remove any retaining tabs that remain attached to the door frame.
    NOTE
    Remove the headliner and the headliner harness as an assembly. Do NOT cut or splice the headliner harness. Cutting or splicing the harness may damage the coax cable, resulting in poor radio performance.

  13. Remove the door opening weatherstrip where it interferes with molding removal and remove the center pillar garnish molding by releasing the 4 retaining clips, then disconnect the electrical connector from the temperature sensor, if equipped.

  17. Remove the overhead console as follows:

  19. Remove the video display, if equipped.

  21. Remove the sunshades from the headliner.

  23. Remove the third row seats, if equipped.
  24.  
  25. Remove the second row seats.
  26.  
  27. Remove the bolt that retains the seat belt upper anchor to the body.
  28.  
  29. Remove the body side front window garnish molding from the vehicle.
  30.  
  31. Remove the bolt that retains the rear seat belt upper anchor to the body.
  32.  
  33. Remove the rear body side trim rear window garnish molding from the vehicle.
  34.  
  35. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to release the 4 sill plate retaining tabs and remove the sill plate from the door frame. Remove any retaining tabs that remain attached to the door frame.
  36.  
  37. Remove the lower seat belt anchor bolt.
  38.  
  39. Release the five screws that retain the left and right rear quarter trim panels to the body and remove the rear quarter trim panels (left and right) from the vehicle.
  40.  
  41. Remove the bolts from the cargo tie-down loops.
  42.  
  43. Remove the nut (1), securing the stowage jack carrier to the wheelhouse panel.
  44.  
  45. Loosen the three bolts that secure the jack carrier to the vehicle.
  46.  
  47. Remove the carpet from around the wheel stud.
  48.  
  49. Remove the body electrical block.
  50.  
  51. Peel the carpet forward and up over the front seats. Note the carpet hooks around the wheelhouse panel stud.

  55. Remove the headliner harness from the floor studs.

  57. Remove the third pillar headliner harness electrical connector from the body electrical block, and the block base from the floor panel.

  61. Remove the navigational antenna cable from the right-hand third pillar.

  63. Remove the navigational antenna cable from the floor studs.

  65. Pull the communication interface module electrical connectors back through the hole in the carpet.

  79. Remove the bolt securing the auxiliary air conditioning duct to the vehicle and remove the duct.

  81. Remove the 2 push pins from the rear of the headliner.
  82.  
  83. Remove the 3 push pins from the rear of the headliner.
  84.  
  85. Remove the covers on the assist handle base, remove the 2 screws and remove assist handles from the roof panel.
  86.  
  87. With the aid of an assistant, lower the headliner to release the interlocking strips that retain the headliner to the roof panel.
  88.  
  89. If the vehicle is equipped with a sunroof, partially lower the headliner and disconnect the sunroof assembly electrical connector.
  90.  
  91. With the aid of an assistant, remove the headliner from the vehicle.
  92.  

To install:

  1. With the aid of an assistant, install the headliner into the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. If the vehicle is equipped with a sunroof, partially raise the headliner and connect the sunroof assembly electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. With the aid of an assistant, fully raise the headliner and ensure that the retaining strips are engaged, and the headliner harnesses hang free of the headliner.
  6.  
  7. Position the assist handles to the roof panel, install the 2 fasteners and tighten to 18 inch lbs. (2 Nm), then install the covers.
  8.  
  9. Install the right rear push pin.
  10.  
  11. Install the left rear push pin.
  12.  
  13. Install the 3 push pins in the center of the headliner.
  14.  
  15. Install the sunshades to the headliner.
  16.  
  17. Install the left and right sunshade retaining clips and tighten the sunshade retaining clip screws to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Install the auxiliary air conditioning duct to the vehicle with the bolt and tighten the bolt to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Connect the coax cable to the navigation antenna, if equipped.
  22.  
  23. Connect the rain sensor electrical connector, if equipped.
  24.  
  25. Connect the inside rear view mirror electrical connector.
  26.  
  27. Install the windshield rearview mirror wire harness cover.
  28.  
  29. Install the video display, if equipped. Tighten the retaining bolts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  30.  
  31. Install the overhead console to the roof as follows:


    1. Position the console to the roof panel.
    2.  
    3. Connect the electrical connectors as needed.
    4.  
    5. Seat the front retaining tabs.
    6.  
    7. Install the 2 screws retaining the console to the roof panel and tighten to 10 inch lbs. (1.2 Nm).
    8.

  33. Install the windshield garnish moldings by engaging the retaining clips.
  34.  
  35. Connect the electrical connector to the temperature sensor, if equipped, then install the center pillar trim panels by engaging the 4 garnish molding retaining tabs to the center pillar.
  36.  
  37. Fully install the door opening weatherstrip
  38.  
  39. Install the front side door sill plates by starting at the front of the sill plate and pushing down on the sill plate, seating the retaining tabs to the door frame. Ensure that all 5 retaining tabs are securely attached to the sill plate. If installing the left sill plate, position the hood release handle through the sill plate.
  40.  
  41. Install the insulator panel to the I/P and tighten the retaining screws to 22 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm).
  42.  
  43. Install the headliner harness to the left third pillar.
  44.  
  45. Install the headliner harness to the floor studs.
  46.  
  47. Install the ground terminals and the ground bolt to the left center pillar and tighten the ground bolt to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  48.  
  49. Reach underneath the carpet and install the 6-way headliner harness electrical connector to the cross-body wire harness.
  50.  
  51. Pass the communication interface module electrical connectors through the small hole in the carpet.
  52.  
  53. Install the headliner harness retaining clips to the rocker panel and the floor panel.
  54.  
  55. If equipped with OnStar® perform the following procedure:
    1. Install the navigation antenna cable to the right 'C' pillar.
    2.  
    3. Install the navigation antenna cable to the floor studs.
    4.  

  56.  
  57. Install the body electrical block.
  58.  
  59. Install the rear carpet. Ensure that the carpet hooks over the left wheelhouse panel stud.
  60.  
  61. Connect the electrical connector to the left-hand body side window actuator.
  62.  
  63. Connect the electrical connector to the right-hand body side window actuator.
  64.  
  65. Install the nut securing the stowage jack carrier to the wheelhouse panel.
  66.  
  67. Install the left and right rear quarter trim panels to the body. Install the five screws that retain the rear quarter trim panels to the body and tighten to 22 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm).
  68.  
  69. Install the seat belt lower anchor and tighten the bolt to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
  70.  
  71. Install the rear body side trim rear window garnish molding to the vehicle.
  72.  
  73. Install the seat belt retractor to the body.
  74.  
  75. Install the bolt that retains the rear seat belt anchor to the body and tighten the bolt to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
  76.  
  77. Install the body side front window garnish molding to the vehicle.
  78.  
  79. Install the seat belt retractor to the body.
  80.  
  81. Install the bolt that retains the seat belt anchor to the body and tighten the bolt to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
  82.  
  83. Install the lift gate door sill plate by pushing down on the sill plate, seating the retaining tabs to the door frame.
  84.  
  85. Install the cargo tie-down loops and tighten the cargo tie-down loop bolts to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  86.  
  87. Align the retaining tabs to the door frame slots and push down on the rear side door sill plate(s), seating the retaining tabs to the door frame. Ensure that all 3 retaining tabs are attached to the sill plate.
  88.  
  89. Install the second row seats and tighten the mounting nuts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  90.  
  91. Install the third row seats, if equipped.
  92.  
  93. Connect the negative battery cable.
  94.
