Tie Rod Ends

  1. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel.

  5. Remove the outer tie rod retaining nut.
    WARNING
    Do not attempt to disconnect a steering linkage joint by driving a wedge between the joint and the attached part. Seal damage may result which will cause premature failure of the joint.

  7. Disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using J-24319-B.

    Fig. Loosen the jam nut (1) and remove the outer tie rod (2) from the inner tie rod (3)

  9. Loosen the jam nut (1) and remove the outer tie rod (2) from the inner tie rod (3). Do not reuse the jam nut.
  10.  
  11. Inspect the shaft for bent or damaged threads.
  12.  
  13. Clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Lubricate the inner tie rod (3) threads with a suitable chassis lubricant before installing the outer tie rod (2).
  2.  
  3. Install the new jam nut (1) to the outer tie rod (2).
  4.  
  5. Install the outer tie rod (2) to the inner tie rod (3).
  6.  
  7. Install the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Install the new outer tie rod retaining nut and tighten the nut to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the tire and wheel.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Adjust the front toe.
  16.
