Rear Window Wiper/Washer Systems

Removal & Installation



Wiper Motor
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wiper arm as follows:
    1. Place the arm in the mid-wipe position on the rear glass.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the washer hose.
    4.  
    5. Remove the wiper arm cover.
    6.  
    7. Disengage the nut retaining the wiper arm to the pivot shaft.
    8.  
    9. Remove the wiper arm from the pivot shaft.
    10.  
    11. Remove the wiper arm blade from the wiper arm, if necessary.
    12.

  5. Remove the nut and spacer from the wiper motor shaft.

  7. Remove the interior trim panel from the liftgate as follows:
    1. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to carefully release the upper liftgate garnish molding retainers, the remove the garnish molding from the liftgate.
    2.  
    3. Open the liftgate window.
    4.  
    5. Remove the push-pin retainer from the upper trim panel.
    6.  
    7. Close the liftgate window.
    8.  
    9. Open the liftgate.
    10.  
    11. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to carefully release the trim panel retainers.
    12.  
    13. Remove the trim panel from the liftgate.
    14.

  9. Disconnect the wiper motor electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 2 bolts retaining the wiper motor to the liftgate.
  12.  
  13. Remove the wiper motor.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the wiper motor.
  2.  
  3. Install the 2 bolts retaining the motor to the liftgate and tighten them to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the wiper motor electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Install the interior trim panel to the liftgate as follows:
    1. Install the trim panel to the liftgate.
    2.  
    3. Ensure that the trim panel retainers are fully seated.
    4.  
    5. Close the liftgate.
    6.  
    7. Open the liftgate window.
    8.  
    9. Install the push-pin retainer in the upper trim panel.
    10.  
    11. Close the liftgate window.
    12.  
    13. Install the garnish molding to the upper liftgate.
    14.  
    15. Ensure that the top 4 garnish molding retainers are fully seated first.
    16.  
    17. Install the 2 garnish molding retainers on each side.
    18.  

  8.  
  9. Install the spacer and the nut on the wiper motor drive shaft. Tighten the nut to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the wiper arm as follows:
    1. Park the rear wiper motor.
    2.  
    3. Position the wiper arm into the park ramp.
    4.  
    5. Install the wiper arm onto the motor shaft with the nut. Hold the wiper arm into the park ramp while torquing the nut. For TrailBlazer SS models, tighten the nut to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm). For the other models, tighten the nut to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Install the nut on the drive shaft. For TrailBlazer SS models, tighten the nut to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm). For the other models, tighten the nut to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Reposition the wiper arm cover.
    10.  
    11. Connect the washer hose.
    12.

  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.
