Diagnosis & Testing
Outside Rearview Mirror Motor Circuit Testing
  1. With the ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the outside rearview mirror motor. Test for infinite resistance between the mirror control circuits and ground. If less than infinite resistance, test the control circuits for a short to ground.
  2.
  3. Install a test lamp between the control circuit for the particular motor and the common control circuit for the mirror motors. Operate the mirror motor by the mirror switch. The test lamp should illuminate with each command. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the motor control circuits for an open/high resistance or a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the rearview mirror switch.
  4.
  5. If the test lamp stays ON constantly, test the motor control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the rearview mirror switch.
  6.
  7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror motor.
  8.

Outside Rearview Mirror Switch Circuit Testing
  1. With the ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the outside rearview mirror switch. Test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit and ground. If greater than 1 ohm, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  2.
  3. With the ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the voltage supply circuit and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the voltage supply circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the voltage supply circuit fuse is open, also test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
  4.
  5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror switch.
  6.

Testing Circuits & Components
  1. With the ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the outside rearview mirror switch. Test for infinite resistance between all of the signal terminals and the voltage supply terminal and the ground circuit with the switch in the open position. If less than infinite resistance, replace the rearview mirror switch.
  2.
  3. Test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between all of the control terminals and ground with the outside rearview mirror switch in the proper positions. If greater than 1 ohm, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the rearview mirror switch.
  4.
  5. With the ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the outside rearview mirror motor. Test for 29-90 ohms of resistance between the control terminal and the ground terminal of the rearview mirror motor. If the resistance is not within the specified range, replace the rearview mirror motor.

Removal & Installation
Motor
  1. Rotate mirror glass to expose the outer edge.
  2.
  3. Remove the front door extension trim panel as follows:
    1. Pull on the top end of extension panel to disengage attaching clip.
    2.
    3. Lift extension panel out from behind the door trim panel.
    4.
    5. Use care to ensure sound deadener is in correct position when installing trim to door.
    6.
    7. Disconnect electrical connectors.
    8.

  4.
  5. Disconnect the mirror electrical connector.
  6.
  7. Remove the mirror mounting nuts.
  8.
  9. Remove the mirror assembly.
  10.
  11. Cover the mirror glass with tape.
  12.
  13. Insert a screwdriver or other flat-bladed tool 8.5 inches or longer and up to 0.4 inches wide into the slot between the mirror glass and mounting base as far as the tool will go.
  14.
  15. Gently pull up on the tool and twist the tool until the glass releases off the base.
  16.
  17. Remove the glass to access the motor assembly.
  18.

To install:

  1. Install the mirror motor.
  2.
  3. Align the new mirror glass with the mounting base.
  4.
  5. Install the mirror glass to the mirror motor with the palm of the hand on the center of the glass, pressing in until fully seated.
  6.
  7. Position the mirror to the door and tighten the mounting nuts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  8.
  9. Connect the electrical connector to the mirror.
  10.
  11. Inspect the operation of the mirror.
  12.
  13. Install the front door upper trim panel extension
  14.

Switch
  1. Use a flat blade tool to remove the left front air deflector.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connection from the power mirror switch
  4.
  5. Remove the power mirror switch.
  6.
  7. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
