Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Perform a diagnostic vehicle check to check for the presence of any diagnostic trouble codes.
  2.
  3. Visually inspect the connection at the power window switch. Correctly attach the electrical connector if necessary.
  4.
  5. Turn OFF the ignition. Remove the power window relay. Connect a test lamp between the power window relay battery positive voltage circuit at the power window relay harness connector and a good ground. If the test lamp did not illuminate, replace the relay or repair the open or high resistance in the main power windows switch ground circuit.
  6.
  7. Disconnect the main power window switch connector. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Connect a test lamp between the accessory voltage circuit of the main power window switch connector and a good ground. If the test lamp illuminates, check for poor wiring around window switch.
  8.
  9. Test the following circuits of the main power window switch for a short to ground:

    Accessory Voltage

Power window motor left front up control

Power window motor left front down control

Power window master switch left rear up signal

Power window master switch left rear down signal

Power window master switch lockout signal of the LR window switch

Power window master switch lockout signal of the RR window switch

Power window master switch right rear up signal

Power window master switch right rear down signal

Power window motor right front up control

Power window motor right front down control

Power window motor left rear up control

Power window motor left rear down control

Power window motor right rear up control

Power window motor right rear down control

  10.
  11. Repair the short to ground of any circuit that tests bad.
  12.
  13. If a single window is inoperative:
    1. Disconnect the inoperative front power window motor.
    2.
    3. Connect a test lamp to a good ground.
    4.
    5. Probe the power window motor up circuit at the power window motor harness connector.
    6.
    7. Activate the power window switch in the up direction.
    8.
    9. If the test lamp illuminates, with the test lamp still connected to a good ground, probe the power window motor down circuit at the power window motor harness connector.
    10.
    11. Activate the power window switch in the down direction.
    12.
    13. If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the wiring around the window switch or replace the window switch.
    14.
    15. If the test lamp illuminates, repair the wiring around the window regulator motor or replace the window regulator motor.
