    Oil Pressure Sensor

    Removal & Installation



    4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L & 7.4L Engines
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    2.  
    3. Hold the engine oil pressure sensor fitting with a wrench.
      NOTE
      Observe the alignment of the oil pressure sensor fitting prior to removal.

    5. Remove the engine oil pressure sensor using J 41712.

    7. Remove the engine oil pressure sensor fitting, if necessary.
    8.  

    To install:

    1. Install the oil pressure sensor fitting, if removed.
      1. Tighten the engine oil pressure sensor fitting to 133 inch lbs. (15 Nm).
      2.  
      3. Tighten the fitting until properly align.
      4.  
      5. Do not loosen the fitting. Do not tighten more than one turn.
      6.  

    2.  
    3. Install the oil pressure sensor.
    4.  
    5. Hold the oil pressure sensor fitting with a wrench to prevent from turning.
      1. Using J 41712 tighten the oil pressure sensor to 22 ft lbs. (30 Nm).
      2.  

    6.  
    7. Install the electrical connector.
    8.  

    4.8L, 5.3L & 6.0L Engines
    1. If necessary, remove the engine sight shield.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
    4.  
    5. Using J 41712 or equivalent, remove the oil pressure sensor.

    To install:

    1. Apply sealant to the threads of the oil pressure sensor.
    2.  
    3. Using J 41712 or equivalent, install the oil pressure sensor.
      1. Tighten the oil pressure sensor to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
      2.  

    4.  
    5. Connect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
    6.  
    7. If necessary, install the engine sight shield.
    8.  

    4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L & 6.2L Engines
    1. If necessary, remove the engine sight shield.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
    4.  
    5. Using J 41712 or equivalent, remove the oil pressure sensor.

    To install:

    1. Apply sealant to the threads of the oil pressure sensor.
    2.  
    3. Using J 41712 or equivalent, install the oil pressure sensor.
      1. Tighten the oil pressure sensor to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
      2.

    5. Connect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
    6.  
    7. If necessary, install the engine sight shield.
    8.  

    4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L & 8.1L Engines
    1. If necessary, remove the engine sight shield.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
    4.  
    5. Using tool J41712 or equivalent, remove the oil pressure sensor.

    To install:

    1. Apply sealant to the threads of the oil pressure sensor.
    2.  
    3. Using tool J41712 or equivalent, install the oil pressure sensor.
    4.  
    5. Tighten the oil pressure sensor to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm) on 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L engines.
    6.  
    7. Tighten the sensor to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) on 8.1L engines.
    8.  
    9. Connect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
    10.  
    11. If necessary, install the engine sight shield.
    12.  

    5.7L & 7.4L Engines
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    2.  
    3. Hold the engine oil pressure sensor fitting with a wrench.
      NOTE
      Note the alignment of the oil pressure sensor fitting prior to removal.

    5. Remove the engine oil pressure sensor using tool J41712 or equivalent.
    6.  
    7. Remove the engine oil pressure sensor fitting, if necessary.

    To install:

    1. Install the oil pressure sensor fitting, if removed, and tighten fitting to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
      NOTE
      Important: Do not loosen the fitting. Do not tighten more than one turn.

    3. Tighten the fitting until properly aligned.
    4.  
    5. Install the oil pressure sensor.
    6.  
    7. Hold the oil pressure sensor fitting with a wrench to prevent from turning.
    8.  
    9. Using tool J41712 or equivalent tighten the oil pressure sensor to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
    10.  
    11. Install the electrical connector.
    12.  

    6.5L Engine
    1. Remove the fuel manager/filter.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove the switch (1).

    To install:

    1. Install the switch (1).
    2.  
    3. Reconnect the electrical connector.
    4.  
    5. Install the fuel manager/filter.
    6.  
    7. Bleed the fuel system
    8.  

    1. Remove the fuel manager/filter to access the sensor:

      Remove the fuel tank filler cap.
       
      Loosen the upper intake manifold cover bolts.
       
      Remove the upper intake manifold cover.

      Open the air bleed valve on top of the fuel manager/filter to release any pressure in the fuel supply system.
       
      Remove the mounting bolts which attach the fuel manager/filter to the intake manifold.
       
      Remove the wiring harnesses and fuel hoses.

    2.  
    3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the engine oil pressure sensor.
    4.  
    5. Remove the switch.
    6.  

    To install:

    1. Install the switch.
    2.  
    3. Reconnect the electrical connector.
    4.  
    5. Install the fuel hoses and wiring harnesses to fuel manager/filter.
    6.  
    7. Position the fuel manager/filter to the intake manifold.
    8.  
    9. Install the fuel manager/filter mounting bolts.
    10.  
    11. Tighten the mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    12.  
    13. Bleed the air from the fuel manager/filter.
    14.  

    6.6L Engines
    1. Remove the left wheelhouse inner panel.
      NOTE
      Clean the area around the sensor. Do not allow debris to enter the engine.

    2.  
    3. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
    4.  
    5. Using J 41712, remove the oil pressure sensor (1).

    To install:

    1. Apply sealant to the threads of the oil pressure sensor.
    2.  
    3. Using J 41712, install the oil pressure sensor (1).
      1. Tighten the sensor to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
      2.  

    4.  
    5. Connect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
    6.  
    7. Install the left wheelhouse inner panel.
    8.  
    9. Check and add engine oil if necessary.
    10.  

    8.1L Engine
    1. Remove the engine sight shield.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
    4.  
    5. Using J 41712 or equivalent, remove the oil pressure sensor.

    To install:

    1. Apply sealant to the threads of the oil pressure sensor.
    2.  
    3. Using J 41712 or equivalent, install the oil pressure sensor.
      1. Tighten the sensor to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
      2.  

    4.  
    5. Connect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
    6.  
    7. Install the engine sight shield.
    8.  

    1. Remove the engine sight shield.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
    4.  
    5. Using J 41712 or equivalent, remove the oil pressure sensor.

    6.  

    To install:

    1. Apply sealant to the threads of the oil pressure sensor.
    2.  
    3. Using J 41712 or equivalent, install the oil pressure sensor.
      1. Tighten the sensor to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
      2.  

    4.  
    5. Connect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
    6.  
    7. Install the engine sight shield.
    8.  

    Testing



    1. Check the oil level and correct as necessary. Turn the ignition switch on, but do not start the engine.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the sensor lead at the sensor. The gauge should read full scale.
    4.  
    5. Ground the connector. The gauge should read at the bottom of the scale.
    6.  
    7. If the gauge functions properly, replace the sensor.
    8.  

    1. Check the oil level and correct as necessary. Turn the ignition switch on, but do not start the engine.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the sensor lead at the sensor. The gauge should read full scale.
    4.  
    5. Ground the connector. The gauge should read at the bottom of the scale.
    6.  
    7. If the gauge functions properly, replace the sensor.
    8.
