Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

Models covered by this manual employ the fourth and fifth generation Electronic Engine Control systems, commonly designated EEC-IV or EEC-V, to manage fuel, ignition and emissions on vehicle engines.

Typically the EEC-IV system was used on 1991-95 models and the EEC-V system was used on 1996-03 models.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects the engine operating and driving conditions, along with the exhaust gas oxygen content. Various switches, sensors and components provide the PCM with information which allows it to control the air/fuel ratio (mixture), emissions and drivability.
