The Knock sensor is a tuned accelerometer on the engine which converts engine vibration to an electrical signal. The PCM uses this signal to determine the presence of engine knock and to retard spark timing.
Removal & Installation
5.4L & 6.8L Engines
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the upper intake manifold.
- Disconnect the knock sensor (KS) electrical connector
Remove the bolt and the KS.
NOTEMake sure the black tapered side is facing up.
To install, reverse the removal procedure and note the following:
- Tighten the KS to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
Checking the resistance of the Knock Sensor (KS).
Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.
