Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer shaft nut from the link bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer shaft link bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the stabilizer shaft link insulators and spacers.
  10.  
  11. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulator clamps mounting bolts (15 and 25 series).
  12.  
  13. Remove the stabilizer shaft clamps (1500 and 2500 series w/7300 GVW).
  14.  
  15. Remove the stabilizer shaft (1500 and 2500 series w/7300 GVW).
  16.  
  17. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulators (1500 and 2500 series w/7300 GVW).
  18.  
  19. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulator clamps mounting nuts and/or studs (2500 series w/8500 and 8600 GVW and 3500 series).
  20.  
  21. Remove the stabilizer shaft clamps (2500 series w/8500 and 8600 GVW and 3500 series).
  22.  
  23. Remove the stabilizer shaft (2500 series w/8500 and 8600 GVW and 3500 series).
  24.  
  25. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulators (2500 series w/8500 and 8600 GVW and 3500 series).
  26.  
  27. Inspect all of the parts for wear and damage.
  28.  

To install:

  1. Install the stabilizer shaft insulator clamp studs, if removed (2500 series w/8500 and 8600 GVW and 3500 series) and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Place the stabilizer shaft insulators on the stabilizer shaft with the slits facing toward the front of the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Install the stabilizer shaft insulators to the stabilizer shaft (2500 series w/8500 and 8600 GVW and 3500 series).
  6.  
  7. Install the stabilizer shaft (2500 series w/8500 and 8600 GVW and 3500 series).
  8.  
  9. Install the stabilizer shaft clamps over the insulators and the stabilizer shaft (2) (2500 series w/8500 and 8600 GVW and 3500 series).
  10.  
  11. Install stabilizer shaft insulator clamps mounting nuts (2500 series w/8500 and 8600 GVW and 3500 series) and tighten the nuts to 34 ft. lbs. (46 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the stabilizer shaft insulators (1500 and 2500 series w/7300 GVW).
  14.  
  15. Install the stabilizer shaft (1500 and 2500 series w/7300 GVW).
  16.  
  17. Install the stabilizer shaft clamps (1500 and 2500 series w/7300 GVW).
  18.  
  19. Install the stabilizer shaft insulator clamps mounting bolts (1500 and 2500 series w/7300 GVW) and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Apply Loctite® on the threads of the stabilizer link bolts then install the bolts.
  22.  
  23. Install the stabilizer shaft nut to the link bolt and tighten to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Install the stabilizer shaft link insulators and spacers.
  26.  
  27. Install the tire and wheel.
  28.  
  29. Lower the vehicle.
  30.  

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer shaft nut from the link bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer shaft link bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the stabilizer shaft link insulators and spacers.
  10.  
  11. Remove the oil pan skid plate, if equipped.
  12.  
  13. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulator bracket bolts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the stabilizer shaft bracket.
  16.  
  17. Remove the stabilizer shaft.
  18.  
  19. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulators.
  20.  
  21. Inspect all of the parts for wear and damage.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Install the insulators to the stabilizer shaft.
  2.  
  3. Install the stabilizer shaft.
  4.  
  5. Install the brackets over the insulators and the stabilizer shaft.
  6.  
  7. Install insulator bracket bolts and tighten to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the stabilizer shaft link insulators and spacers.
  10.  
  11. Apply Loctite® on the threads of the stabilizer link bolts then install the bolts.
  12.  
  13. On Express/Savana and 2005-06 Avalanche, install the stabilizer shaft nut to the link bolt and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm), and continue to tighten the nut until 2-4 threads protrude above the nut. On 2007 Avalanche, tighten the nuts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the oil pan skid plate, if equipped.
  16.  
  17. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove the safety stands
  20.  
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22.
