4.3L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the hoses at the pump. When the hoses are disconnected, secure the ends in a raised position to prevent leakage. Cap the ends of the hoses to prevent the entrance of dirt.
  4.  
  5. Cap the pump fittings.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the belt tensioner.
  8.  
  9. Remove the pump drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the pulley with a pulley puller such as J-29785-A.
  12.  
  13. Remove the following fasteners front mounting bolts
  14.  
  15. Lift out the pump.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Observe the following torque:

    Front mounting bolts: 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
     

  2.  
  3. Install the pulley with J-25033-B.
  4.  
  5. Install the drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Install the hoses.
  8.  
  9. Fill and bleed the system.
  10.  

4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, 6.5L & 7.4L Engines



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the hoses at the pump. When the hoses are disconnected, secure the ends in a raised position to prevent leakage. Cap the ends of the hoses to prevent the entrance of dirt.
  4.  
  5. Cap the pump fittings.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the belt tensioner.
  8.  
  9. Remove the pump drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the pulley with a pulley puller such as J-29785-A.
  12.  
  13. Remove the following fasteners:

    6-4.3L, 8-5.0L, 8-5.7L engines: front mounting bolts
     
    8-7.4L engine: rear brace
     
    8-6.5L diesel: front brace and rear mounting nuts
     

  14.  
  15. Lift out the pump.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Observe the following torques:

    6-4.3L, 8-5.0L, 8-5.7L engines, front mounting bolts: 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
     
    8-7.4L engine, rear brace nut: 61 ft. lbs. (82 Nm); rear brace bolt: 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm); mounting bolts: 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
     
    8-6.5L diesel, front brace: 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm); rear mounting nuts: 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
     

  2.  
  3. Install the pulley with J-25033-B.
  4.  
  5. Install the drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Install the hoses.
  8.  
  9. Fill and bleed the system.
  10.  

4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, & 8.1L Engines



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Upper radiator fan shroud, if necessary
     
    Drive belt
     
    Pulley.
     
    Nut and clamp retaining the filler neck to the power steering pump, if equipped
     

  4.  
  5. Place a drain pan under the pump. Remove the hoses from the pump.

    Bolts from the rear of the pump
     
    Bolts from the front of the pump
     
    Pump from the vehicle

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Power steering pump
     
    Bolts to the front and the rear of the pump. Tighten the bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
     
    Hoses to the pump. Tighten the nut to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm)
     
    Nut and clamp retaining the filler neck to the power steering pump, if equipped
     
    Pulley. Install the pulley with 0.020 inch (0.5mm) play
     
    Drive belt
     
    Upper radiator shroud.
     

  2.  
  3. Fill and bleed the power steering system.
  4.  

Except 4.3L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Upper radiator fan shroud, if necessary
     
    Drive belt
     
    Pulley.
     
    Nut and clamp retaining the filler neck to the power steering pump, if equipped
     

  4.  
  5. Place a drain pan under the pump. Remove the hoses from the pump.

    Bolts from the rear of the pump
     
    Bolts from the front of the pump
     
    Pump from the vehicle

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Power steering pump
     
    Bolts to the front and the rear of the pump. Tighten the bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
     
    Hoses to the pump. Tighten the nut to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm)
     
    Nut and clamp retaining the filler neck to the power steering pump, if equipped
     
    Pulley. Install the pulley with 0.020 in (0.5 mm) play
     
    Drive belt
     
    Upper radiator shroud.
     

  2.  
  3. Fill and bleed the power steering system.
  4.
