To avoid confusion, always tag the spark plug wires and, if equipped, the distributor cap before removal of the wires or distributor cap.

The distributors used on the CRV and 2.2L/2.3L Odyssey models use an offset keyway on the distributor shaft where it mates with the end of the camshaft. This prevents the distributor from being installed incorrectly. Although the distributor is keyed, the spark plug wires must be installed onto the distributor cap in the correct order for the engine to run properly.

As long as the distributor housing has not been moved or removed, the ignition timing will not be affected by the removal or replacement of the ignition wires, spark plugs, distributor cap or ignition rotor. If the distributor has been moved, or removed, the ignition timing must be checked and possibly reset as described in General Information and Maintenance .
