Ford Aerostar 1986-1997 Repair Guide

Oil Pump Drive

4.0L and 1996 3.0L Engines

Since this engine has no ignition distributor, the oil pump driveshaft engages an oil pump drive unit which installs in the same way and same position as a conventional distributor.

To remove the drive unit, located at the rear of the block, behind the intake manifold, simply remove the hold-down clamp and pull the unit from the engine.

When installing the unit, coat the gear and O-ring with clean engine oil, insert it in the block and torque the hold-down clamp bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
