Coil Springs

Removal & Installation

If the vehicle is equipped with air suspension, the electrical power to the air suspension system must be shut off prior to hoisting, jacking or towing an air suspension vehicle. This can be accomplished by turning off the air suspension switch located in the luggage compartment. Failure to do so can result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs, which can result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

  1. Place a hoist under the rear axle housing and raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Support the frame side rails with 2 jack stands.
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear sway bar
Lower studs of both rear shock absorbers from the mounting brackets on the axle tube
Parking brake cable from the upper arm retainer before lowering the axle housing

  7. Lower the axle housing until the coil springs are released. If the axle housing is supported by the hoist, lower the hoist allowing the rear of the vehicle to rest on the jack stands. If the vehicle-s axle housing is supported by the jack stands, leave the hoist stationary and lower the jack stands or raise the hoist to release the tension on the coil springs.
  9. Remove the coil springs and insulators.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

Coil spring in the upper and lower seats with an insulator between the upper end of the spring and frame seat
Axle housing and connect the lower studs of the shock absorbers to the mounting brackets
Parking cable into the upper arm retainer
    Sway bar

  3. Road test the vehicle and check for proper operation.
