Speedometer Cable

  1. Reach up behind the speedometer and depress the flat, quick disconnect tab (thumb latch), while pulling back on the cable.
  3. If just the inner core is to be replaced pull the core from the casing. If the inner core is broken, raise and support the car and remove the cable-to-transmission clamp and pull the cable core from the transmission.
  5. If both the cable and casing need to be replaced disconnect the cable from the speedometer head and push through the opening in the dash panel or floor pan. Raise the car on a hoist and disconnect the cable from the transmission and the retaining clips. To prevent kinking reroute the cable assembly properly. See the illustration.
