Lower Control Arm, Bushing & Steering Knuckle

Removal & Installation




NOTE
Do not begin the removal procedure unless a new strut-to-lower arm nut, a new ball joint pinch bolt/nut and a new lower arm-to-front subframe bolt/nut are available.

  1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    The control arm bushing should be replaced whenever the control arm is removed.



    Wheel
     
    Brake caliper
     
    Rotor
     
    Axle shaft nut
     
    Wheel hub and bearing
     
    Tie rod nut
     
    Steering knuckle pinch bolt
     
    Stabilizer bar link nut
     
    Steering knuckle
     
    Lower arm bushing bolts
     
    Lower control arm

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower control arm
     
    Lower arm bushing bolts. Tighten NEW bolts to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
     
    Steering knuckle. Tighten NEW ball joint stud-to-knuckle bolt to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
     
    Stabilizer bar link nut. Tighten NEW bolt to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
     
    Steering knuckle pinch bolt. Tighten NEW bolt to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
     
    Tie rod nut. Tighten NEW nut to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
     
    Wheel hub and bearing. Tighten the bolts to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
     
    Axle shaft nut. Tighten NEW bolt to 185 ft. lbs. (250 Nm).
     
    Rotor
     
    Brake caliper
     

  2.  
  3. Install the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6.
