REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
6.4L and 7.0L engines utilize shaft-mounted rocker arm assemblies. Removal and Installation procedures for these rocker arm assemblies are included under the Cylinder Head Removal and Installation procedure. Remember that the oil holes must always face downward and that the large rocker shaft retaining bolt is always the second from the front of the engine. In all cases, the tightening sequence for the rocker shaft retaining bolts is from the front to the rear of the engine, two turns at a time.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the rocker arm cover. A plastic-faced hammer may be needed to loosen the cover from the gasket.
- Remove the rocker arm stud nut or bolt, fulcrum seat and rocker arm. Inspect all the parts, and replace if necessary. Also inspect the pushrod.
- Lubricate all parts with heavy SF oil before installation. When installing, rotate the crankshaft until the lifter is on the base of the cam circle (all the way down) and assemble the rocker arm. Tighten the nut or bolt to 17-23 ft. lbs. (23-30 Nm) and on later models 18-25 ft. lbs. (23-33 Nm).
