Ford Full-Size Cars 1968-1988 Repair Guide

Wheel and Tire Assembly

For wheel removal and installation procedures, See Routine Maintenance .

Replace any wheel that is bent, dented or heavily rusted, has air leaks (aluminum wheels can, in some instances, be repaired), elongated bolt holes, or has excessive lateral or radial runout. Wheels with excessive lateral or radial runout can cause a high-speed vehicle vibration.

The replacement wheels must be of the same load capacity, diameter, width, offset and mounting configuration as the original equipment wheels. Improper wheels may affect wheel and bearing life, ground and tire clearance, or speedometer and odometer calibrations.
