It is recommended that an SAE 80W-90 weight gear oil be used in the manual transmission.
Manual transmission have no provision for a dipstick to check fluid level.
To check the transmission fluid level, proceed as follows:
- Raise and support the entire vehicle safely on jackstands.
- Locate the fluid filler plug on the right side of the transmission.
- Loosen and remove the fluid filler plug. Upon removing the plug, if gear oil drips out, the level is satisfactory. If upon removing the plug, gear oil does not drip out, additional fluid will have to be added.
- To add fluid, pour gear oil into the transmission hole and install the plug. Wait several minutes and check the level. continue adding gear oil until it begins to drip out.
DRAIN AND REFILL
The gear oil should be changed at the intervals specified in the Maintenance Intervals chart at the end of this section.
With the entire vehicle raised and supported on jackstands, remove the transmission plug at the base of the transmission and allow the fluid to drain into a drain pan. Once the fluid has drained completely, install the plug. If equipped with a 3-speed transmission, fill the transmission with 3.5 qts of gear oil. If equipped with a 4-speed transmission, fill the transmission with 4.0 qts of gear oil. Always check the fluid levels before lowering the vehicle, and adjust as needed.
