The recommended maintenance interval for checking the lubricant level in manual transmissions is every six months or 6,000 miles (8 months or 8,000 miles-1973). The procedure for checking the level of lubricant is as follows:
- Make sure that the vehicle is standing level.
- Clean the area around the filler plug, and remove the plug from the side of the case.
- If lubricant does not flow from the filler hole, fill the transmission case with the specified lubricant until it is level with the bottom of the filler hole.
- Install the filler plug.
