Every 12 months or 12,000 miles, the tie-rod ends should be checked for looseness. In addition, the front suspension ball joints, ball joint mountings, brake caliper attaching bolts, and all steering gear mountings and linkage connections should be checked for looseness. Tighten all loose nuts and bolts to specifications. Make sure all cotter pins are properly installed. Looseness of steering components can adversely affect wheel alignment and can be a major cause of steering wander and loss of vehicle control.
