Ford Probe 1989-1992 Repair Guide

Pushing And Towing

Manual transaxle equipped cars may be started by pushing, in the event of a dead battery. But push starting IS NOT RECOMMENDED because of possible damage to the catalytic converter. If you must push start, ensure that the push car bumper doesn't override the bumper of your car. Depress the clutch pedal. Select Second or Third gear. Switch the ignition ON. When the car reaches a speed of approximately 10 mph, release the clutch to start the engine.

If towing is required, the vehicle should be flat bedded, or towed with the front wheels off of the ground to prevent damage to the transaxle. If it is necessary to tow the vehicle from the rear, a wheel dolly should be placed under the front tires.
