  1. Drain the coolant from the radiator and remove the lower hose and the return hose from the water inlet housing.
  2.

CAUTION
When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  1. Using Tools T83T-6312-A and B remove the fan and clutch assembly from the front of the water pump.
  2.

The fan clutch assembly uses a left hand thread, remove by turning the nut counterclockwise.

  1. Loosen the alternator mounting bolts and remove the alternator belt.
  2.
  3. Remove the water pump pulley.
  4.
  5. On 2.8L engines, remove the water inlet housing and thermostat from the water pump.
  6.
  7. Remove the bolts retaining the water pump assembly and remove the water pump from the front cover.
  8.
  9. Before installing the water pump, clean the gasket surfaces on the front cover and on the water pump assembly. Apply gasket sealer to both sides of the new gasket and install the water pump in the reverse order of removal.
