On 1983-88 vehicles, the front suspension design utilizes MacPherson struts with coil springs mounted between the lower arm and a spring pocket in the No. 2 crossmember. The shock struts are non-repairable, and must be replaced as a unit. The ball joints lower suspension arm bushings are not separately serviced, and they also must be replaced by replacing the suspension arm assembly. The ball joint seal can be replaced separately.
On 1989-96 vehicles the front suspension design utilizes coil springs mounted over the MacPherson struts. The struts are non-repairable, and must be replaced as a unit. The suspension geometry features high caster angle and negative camber for outstanding handling and improved tire wear characteristics. Again the lower control arm bushings, lower and upper ball joints cannot be serviced individually, but as a unit with their control arms respectively.
