Sending Units and Sensors

Coolant Temperature

The coolant temperature sending unit is located on the, left side rear of the head on inline engines, and on front of the intake manifold on V6 and V8 engines. Disconnect the sensor wire and unscrew the sending unit, quickly thread the new unit into place (this will cause very little coolant fluid loss) tighten until the fluid stops leaking; to about 6-10 ft. lbs. (8-14 Nm). Connect the sensor wire and check for normal operation.

Oil Pressure

All Ford engines have the oil pressure sending unit mounted in the side of the engine block near the oil filter. A special socket is available to remove and install the unit. Disconnect the sensor wire, using the special socket remove the sending unit. Before installing the new sending unit, put Teflon® tape or equivalent on the threads, tighten unit to 10-15 ft. lbs. (14-20 Nm).
