Brake Backing Plate
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
In order to remove the brake backing plate, the brake assemblies must be removed.
Disconnect the hydraulic line from the wheel cylinder and submerge the end of the line in a container of brake fluid to minimize brake fluid loss and bleeding.
Remove the wheel cylinder.
On rear brakes, remove the parking brake cables.
On rear brakes, refer to
under Rear Axle Shaft and Bearing Removal and Installation, and remove the backing plate after the axle shaft has been removed.
On the front brake assemblies, remove the capscrews which retain the backing plate to the spindle and remove the backing plate.
Install the backing plate in the reverse order of removal. Torque the backing plate nuts to 60 ft. lbs. (81 Nm) for the front, or to the figure given in
for the rear.
