The spark delay valve is a plastic spring loaded, color coded valve in the vacuum line to the distributor vacuum advance chamber on some 1972 models. Under heavy throttle application, the valve will close, blocking carburetor vacuum to the distributor vacuum advance mechanism. After the designated period of time, the valve opens, restoring normal carburetor vacuum to the distributor.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
- Locate the spark delay valve in the distributor vacuum line and disconnect it from the line.
- Install a new spark delay valve in line, making sure that the black end of the valve is connected to the line from the carburetor and the color coded end is connected to the line from the spark delay valve to the distributor.
