KNUCKLES AND STEERING LINKAGE
The lubrication chart indicates where the grease fittings are located. The vehicle should be greased according to the intervals in the Preventive Maintenance Schedule at the end of this section. Fittings are usually located on the ball joints, steering linkage and driveshaft(s). In some cases, a threaded plug will be found which will have to be removed to allow the installation of a fitting. Fittings are available at most auto parts stores.
Using a grease gun loaded with multi-purpose chassis lube, pump grease through the fitting until some grease is forced from the ball stud or joint being serviced.
Wipe the fitting clean before applying the grease gun and wipe off the excess grease after servicing.
PARKING BRAKE LINKAGE
Use chassis grease on the parking brake cable where it contacts the cable guides, levers and linkage.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION LINKAGE
Apply a small amount of clean engine oil to the kickdown and shift linkage points at 7,500 mile (12,077 km) intervals.
