Transaxle Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Position the shift lever in the PARK position.
  6.  
  7. Install an engine support fixture.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Battery from the vehicle
     
    Transaxle wiring harness from the transaxle
     
    Park/neutral switch connector
     
    Shift control cable from the transaxle
     
    Upper transaxle-to-engine bolts
     
    Left transaxle mounting bracket
     

  10.  
  11. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Drain the transaxle fluid.

    Oil cooler pipes from transaxle
     
    Drive shafts
     
    Starter
     
    Flywheel-to-torque converter bolts
     

  14.  
  15. Support the transaxle assembly using transaxle support fixture DW260-010.

    Rear transaxle mounting bracket bolts and damping block connection bolt and nut
     
    Lower engine-to-transaxle bolts
     
    Transaxle assembly from vehicle
     

  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the transaxle assembly into the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Support the transaxle assembly using transaxle support fixture DW260-010.

  5. Install the lower engine-to-transaxle bolts and tighten to the following torque values:

    Lower engine-to-transaxle bolts -a- : 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm)
     
    Lower engine-to-transaxle bolt -b- : 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm)
     
    Lower engine-to-transaxle bolts -c- : 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm)
     

  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following:

    Rear transaxle mounting bracket bolts and tighten to 45 ft. lbs. (62 Nm)
     
    Damping block connection bolt and nut and tighten to 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm)

    Torque converter bolts and tighten the bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm)
     
    Starter
     
    Drive shafts
     
    Oil cooler pipes to the transaxle
     

  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.

    Left transaxle mounting bracket and tighten the bolts to 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm)
     
    Upper transaxle-to-engine bolts and tighten to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm)
     
    Clip to shift control cable and shift cable to the transaxle
     
    Park/neutral switch connector
     
    Transaxle wiring harness to the transaxle
     

  10.  
  11. Remove the engine support fixture.
  12.  
  13. Install the battery and connect the positive battery cable first.
  14.  
  15. Fill the transaxle with the correct amount and type of fluid.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.
