Bearing Replacement

Suzuki Forenza 2007-2008

Suzuki Reno 2007-2008

Camshaft caps are utilized as the bearings and the caps must be replaced and machined in the event of a mechanical failure. If damage is too extensive for cap replacement, the cylinder head must be replaced.

Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Suzuki Forenza 2007-2008

Suzuki Reno 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Timing belt
     
    Breather tube and engine ventilation hose at the camshaft cover
     
    Spark plug cover bolts and spark plug cover
     
    Ignition wires from the spark plugs
     
    Camshaft cover bolts and camshaft cover washers
     
    Camshaft cover and the camshaft cover gasket
     
    Intake camshaft gear bolt while holding the intake camshaft firmly in place
     
    Intake camshaft gear
     
    Exhaust camshaft gear bolt while holding the exhaust camshaft firmly in place
     
    Exhaust camshaft gear
     

  8.  
  9. Loosen the camshaft bearing cap bolts in stages of one-half to one turn.

    Camshaft bearing caps. Maintain the correct positions for installation.
     
    Camshafts
     
    Seal ring from the camshafts
     

  10.  
  11. Check the camshaft and bearing seats for wear and replace them if necessary.
  12.  
  13. Remove the valve tappet adjusters. Maintain the correct positions for installation.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Lubricate the valve tappet adjusters with engine oil.
  2.  
  3. Install the valve tappet adjusters.
    WARNING
    Take extreme care to prevent any scratches, nicks or damage to the camshafts.

  4.  
  5. Lubricate the camshaft journals and the camshaft caps with engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following:

    Intake camshaft
     
    Intake camshaft caps in their original positions
     
    Intake camshaft cap bolts
     
    Exhaust camshaft
     
    Exhaust camshaft caps in their original positions
     
    Exhaust camshaft cap bolts

  8.  
  9. Tighten the camshaft cap bolts gradually and in sequence shown. Tighten the camshaft bearing cap bolts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Measure the intake camshaft end play and the exhaust camshaft end play. End play should not exceed 0.0015-0.0055 inch (0.040-0.14mm).
  12.  
  13. Install the intake camshaft gear.
  14.  
  15. Tighten the intake camshaft gear bolt while holding the intake camshaft firmly in place. Tighten the intake camshaft gear bolt to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm) plus 60 degrees and 15 degrees using the angular torque gauge KM-470-B.
  16.  
  17. Tighten the exhaust camshaft gear.
  18.  
  19. Tighten the exhaust camshaft gear bolt while holding the exhaust camshaft firmly in place. Tighten the exhaust camshaft gear bolt to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm) plus 60 degrees and 15 degrees using the angular torque gauge KM-470-B.
  20.  
  21. Install or connect the following:

    Camshaft cover and gasket
     
    Camshaft cover washers and bolts and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm)
     
    Ignition wires to the spark plugs
     
    Spark plug cover and bolts and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm)
     
    Breather tube and engine ventilation hose to the camshaft cover
     
    Timing belt
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  22.  
  23. Start the engine and check for any leaks when finished.
