1- Step 1: Tighten head bolts 1 - 10 to 18 ft. lbs. (15 Nm)
2- Step 1: Tighten crank shaft bearing cap bolts to to 37 lb-ft. (50 Nm)
3- Step 1: Tighten rod bearing bolts to to 26 lb-ft. (35 Nm)
4- Step 1:- Crank Shaft Gear bolt : 107 ft. lbs. (145 Nm)
5- Step 1: Flywheel bolts : 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm)
6- 89 inch pounds (10 Nm)

Main Bearing Torque Sequence



  1. Mark the order of the crankshaft bearing caps.
  2.  
  3. Remove the crankshaft bearing cap bolts.
  4.  
  5. Remove the crankshaft bearing caps and the lower crankshaft bearings.
  6.  
  7. Remove the crankshaft.
  8.  
  9. Clean the parts, as needed.
  10.  
  11. Coat the crankshaft bearings with engine oil.
  12.  
  13. If replacing the crankshaft, transfer the pulse pickup sensor disc to the new crankshaft.
  14.  
  15. Install the crankshaft.
  16.  
  17. Install the lower crankshaft bearings in the bearing caps.
  18.  
  19. Inspect the crankshaft end play with the crankshaft bearings installed.
  20.  
  21. Crankshaft End Play 0.0027 -0.0118 in (0.070-0.302 mm).

  23. With the crankshaft mounted on the front and rear crankshaft bearings, check the middle crankshaft journal for permissible out-of-round (runout). Main Journal Diameter (All) 2.2824-2.2832 in (57.974-57.995 mm.) Limit 0.0001 in (0.003 mm.).

  25. Inspect all of the crankshaft bearing clearances using a commercially available plastic gauging (ductile plastic threads).

  27. Cut the plastic gauging threads to the length of the bearing width. Lay them axially between the crankshaft journals and the crankshaft bearings.

  29. Install the crankshaft bearing caps and the bolts.
  30.  
  31. Tighten the crankshaft bearing cap bolts to 37ft. lbs. (50 Nm) plus 45°and 15°.

  33. Remove the crankshaft bearing cap bolts and the caps.
  34.  
  35. Measure the width of the flattened plastic thread of the plastic gauging using a ruler. (Plastic gauging is available for different tolerance ranges.)
  36.  
  37. Inspect the bearing clearance for permissible tolerance ranges.
  38.  
  39. Main Bearing clearances (All) 0.00059-0.00157 in. (0.015-0.040 mm)

  41. Apply a bead of adhesive sealing compound to the grooves of the crankshaft bearing caps.
  42.  
  43. Install the crankshaft bearing caps to the engine block.
  44.  
  45. Tighten the crankshaft bearing caps using new bolts.
  46.  
  47. Tighten the crankshaft bearing cap bolts to 37ft. lbs. (50 Nm) using a torque wrench.
    NOTE
    Use the angular torque gauge KM-470-B to tighten the crankshaft bearings another 45° and 15°.
