Lower Control Arm

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Loosen the front wheel nuts 1 / 2 turn.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front tire/wheel assembly
  6.  
  7. On CRV and 4-cylinder Odyssey models, perform the following:
    1. Disconnect the lower sway bar link.
    2.  
    3. Remove the strut fork through bolt.
    4.

  9. On 4-cylinder Odyssey models, remove the radius rod-to-control arm fasteners.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the lower ball joint flange nut, then using a suitable ball joint removal tool, disconnect the ball joint from the control arm.
  12.  
  13. Remove the lower control arm bushing fasteners, then remove the control arm.
  14.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following steps and tightening specifications:
    1. On CRV and 4-cylinder Odyssey models, perform the following:

      Lubricate the lower control arm bushings with silicone grease
       
      Replace the strut fork-to-control arm flange nut and torque the nut and through bolt to: 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
       
      Install the lower ball joint castle nut using a new cotter pin and torque to: 36-43 ft. lbs. (49-59 Nm)
       

    2.  
    3. On CRV models, tighten the control arm retainers, as follows:

      Front flange bolt: 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm)
       
      Rear bushing bracket bolts: 66 ft. lbs. (89 Nm)
       
      Rear busing self-locking nut (replace): 61 ft. lbs. (83 Nm)
       

    4.  
    5. On 4-cylinder Odyssey models, tighten the control arm front flange bolt to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
    6.  
    7. On V6 Odyssey models, tighten the control arm retainers, as follows:

      Front and rear flange bolts: 69 ft. lbs. (93 Nm)
       
      Rear bushing bracket bolts: 66 ft. lbs. (89 Nm)
       
      Install the lower ball joint castle nut using a new lock pin and torque to: 43-51 ft. lbs. (59-69 Nm)
       

    8.  
    9. Torque the lug nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm)
