Inspection



Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.

Removal & Installation



2.4L Engine
  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right front fender liner.
  4.  
  5. Install Belt Tensioner Unloader J-44811 to the drive belt tensioner.
  6.  
  7. Using the tool, rotate the tensioner counterclockwise in order to release the tensioner from the drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Slowly rotate the tool and the tensioner clockwise in order to allow the tensioner to rest.
  12.  
  13. Remove the tool from the drive belt tensioner.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install and position the drive belt around all of the pulleys except for the drive belt tensioner.
  2.  
  3. Install the tool to the drive belt tensioner.
  4.  
  5. Using the tool, rotate the tensioner counterclockwise.
  6.  
  7. Position the drive belt under the tensioner pulley.
  8.  
  9. Using the tool, rotate the tensioner clockwise in order to seat the tensioner pulley onto the drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Install the right front fender liner.
  12.  
  13. Install the air cleaner outlet resonator.
  14.  

3.5L Engine
  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine mount strut.
  4.  
  5. Rotate the drive belt tensioner counterclockwise to release the spring tension.
  6.  
  7. Remove the drive belt.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Rotate the drive belt tensioner counterclockwise to release the spring tension.
  2.  
  3. Install the drive belt.
  4.  
  5. Install the engine mount strut.
  6.  
  7. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  8.  

3.6L Engine
  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine mount strut bracket.
  4.  
  5. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to release the drive belt tension.
  6.  
  7. Slide the drive belt off of the belt idler pulley.
  8.  
  9. Slowly release the drive belt tensioner.
  10.  
  11. Remove the drive belt from the accessory drive pulleys.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the drive belt to the crankshaft pulley, the tensioner and the generator.
  2.  
  3. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
  4.  
  5. Install the drive belt to the idler pulley.
  6.  
  7. Slowly release the drive belt tensioner.
    NOTE
    Ensure the drive belt is properly aligned and seated into the grooves of the accessory drive pulleys.

  8.  
  9. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  10.  

3.9L Engine
Convertible
  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the intake manifold cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine mount bracket bolt and spacer.
  6.  
  7. Rotate the drive belt tensioner counterclockwise in order to release the tensioner spring tension.
  8.  
  9. Remove the drive belt
  10.  

To install:

  1. Rotate the drive belt tensioner counterclockwise in order to release the tensioner spring tension.
  2.  
  3. Install the drive belt.
    NOTE
    The spacer has a nominal length of 36.0 mm (1.42 in). If the spacer cannot be reinstalled, the spacer will require the ends to be buffed slightly using a crocus cloth or emery paper in order to bring the length to a minimum of 35.80 mm (1.41 in).

  4.  
  5. Install the engine mount bracket spacer.
  6.  
  7. Install the engine mount bracket bolt and tighten to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the intake manifold cover.
  10.  
  11. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  12.  

Coupe
  1. Remove the air cleaner.
  2.  
  3. Remove the intake manifold cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine mount strut.
  6.  
  7. Rotate the drive belt tensioner counterclockwise in order to release the tensioner spring tension.
  8.  
  9. Remove the drive belt.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Rotate the drive belt tensioner counterclockwise in order to release the tensioner spring tension.
  2.  
  3. Install the drive belt.
  4.  
  5. Install the engine mount strut.
  6.  
  7. Install the intake manifold cover.
  8.  
  9. Install the air cleaner.
  10.
