Removal & Installation

  1. Remove the upper steering column trim cover.
  2.  
  3. Disable the air bag system.
  4.  
  5. On back side of the steering wheel are 2 circular openings, place the wheel so that one opening is on top.
  6.  
  7. Using a blunt-ended tool, push the spring fastener inward through the access hole. Repeat the step for the other opening.
  8.  
  9. Release the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  12.  
  13. Remove the inflator module.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the steering wheel control electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Remove the steering wheel nut.
  18.  
  19. Make an alignment mark to note the relationship between the steering wheel and the steering shaft. The marks will be needed to align the steering wheel during installation.
  20.  
  21. Install a steering wheel puller to the steering wheel.
  22.  
  23. Use the puller in order to remove the steering wheel.
  24.  
  25. Remove puller from the steering wheel.
  26.  
  27. Remove the controls and the control harness from the steering wheel.
  28.  

To install:

  1. Install the controls and the control harness to the steering wheel.
  2.  
  3. Route the steering column wiring through the steering wheel.
  4.  
  5. Install the steering wheel.
  6.  
  7. Connect the steering wheel control electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Install the steering wheel nut and tighten to 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the inflator module.
  12.  
  13. Install the upper steering column trim cover.
  14.  
  15. Enable the air bag system.
  16.
