GM Blazer/Jimmy/Typhoon/Bravada 1983-1993 Repair Guide

Power Steering Pump

On some vehicles, the power steering pump is very difficult to access for level checks as it is covered by other engine accessories. On these, a funnel is absolutely necessary when adding fluid.

The power steering pump reservoir is usually located at the front left-side of the engine.

Use GM Power Steering Fluid No. 1050017 or equivalent.

Avoid using automatic transmission fluid in the power steering unit.

See Figures 1, 2 and 3

The power steering fluid should be checked at least every 6 months. There is a Cold and a Hot mark on the dipstick. To prevent possible overfilling, check the fluid level only when the fluid has warmed to operating temperatures and the engine is shut OFF . If necessary, add fluid to the power steering pump reservoir.

On models equipped with a remote reservoir, the fluid level should be1/2-1 in. (25.4mm) from the top when the wheels are turned to the extreme left position.
