Door Glass and Regulator

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION




CAUTION
Always wear heavy gloves when handling glass to minimize the risk of injury.

Door Glass

See Figures 1, 2 and 3

  1. Remove the door trim panel. For details, please refer to the procedure located earlier in this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the armrest bracket-to-door screws and the bracket.
  4.  
  5. Remove the water deflector from the door.
  6.  

The water deflector is secured by a strip of adhesive between the deflector and door, as well as waterproof sealing tape. Upon installation, make sure a good seal is achieved to keep water from entering the body. If necessary, use strip caulking as a sealant between the deflector and door.

  1. Lower the window until it and the sash channel can be seen in the door panel opening, then remove the sash assembly-to-window bolts.
  2.  
  3. Remove the sash assembly and the window from the door.
  4.  

On some late model vehicles, it may be necessary to remove the sash assembly, then cut the clips from the glass in order to remove the glass from the door. If this is done, new clips must be installed on the glass before it is lowered into the door and rotated into the run channel.

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. Check for proper window operation before installing the water deflector and trim panel.

Door Regulator
  1. Remove the door trim panel. For details, please refer to the procedure earlier in this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the armrest bracket-to-door screws and the bracket.
  4.  
  5. Remove the water deflector from the door.
  6.  

The water deflector is secured by a strip of adhesive between the deflector and door, as well as waterproof sealing tape. Upon installation, make sure a good seal is achieved to keep water from entering the body. If necessary, use strip caulking as a sealant between the deflector and door.

  1. Raise the window to the full up position. Using cloth backed tape, securely tape the glass to the door frame.
  2.  
  3. Remove the regulator-to-door bolts or rivets (as applicable) and separate the regulator lift arm roller from the window sash, then remove the regulator from the door.
  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Use new rivets (when applicable) unless the service kit contains replacement bolts. Be sure to check for proper regulator operation before installing the water deflector and trim panel.
