GM Blazer/Jimmy/Typhoon/Bravada 1983-1993 Repair Guide

Clearing Codes

Codes should be cleared once repairs are completed to be assured that the fault is corrected and to make sure the code does not confuse a future attempt at troubleshooting. On most vehicles, the TECH 1®, or an equivalent scan tool may be used to clear codes from the control module memory. If a scan tool is unavailable or your tool does not have this capability, power must be removed from the module for a minimum of 30 seconds. The lower the ambient temperature, the longer period of time the power must be removed.

Remember, to prevent control module damage, the ignition must always be OFF when removing power. Power may be removed through various methods, depending on how the truck is equipped. The preferable method is to remove the control module fuse from the fuse box. The control module pigtail may also be unplugged. If necessary, the negative battery cable may be disconnected, but other on board data such as radio presets will be lost.
