REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

- Raise and safely support the vehicle. Position a jackstand under the engine cradle and lower the vehicle so the weight of the vehicle rests on the jackstand and not the control arms. The control arms must hang free.
- Remove the front wheel and tire assemblies.
- Remove the left and right stabilizer link bolts.
- If equipped, remove the left and right side stabilizer shaft mounting bolts and brackets.
- Matchmark the tie rod position, then, using a suitable puller, disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles.
- Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold and turn the passenger side strut assembly completely to the right.
- Slide the stabilizer shaft over the steering knuckle, then pull down until the stabilizer bar clears the frame.
- Remove the stabilizer shaft from the vehicle.
- Position the stabilizer shaft in the vehicle, over the steering knuckle. Raise the stabilizer bar over the frame and slide into position.
- Loosely install the stabilizer bar mount bushings/insulators, brackets and bolts.
- Loosely install the stabilizer link/bushing components.
- Install the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles.
Install the stabilizer shaft mounting bracket bolts and tighten as follows:
- 1987-92 vehicles: 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
- 1993-99 vehicles: 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
- Install the stabilizer link/bushing nut and tighten to 1 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
- Install the tie rod end-to-knuckle nuts and tighten to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm). Install a new cotter pin. The nuts can be tightened up to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm) for cotter pin alignment. Never loosen the nut to insert the cotter pin.
- Connect the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold and tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
- Install the tire and wheel assemblies.
- Raise the vehicle and remove the jackstands.
- Carefully lower the vehicle, then tighten the wheel lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
