REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figures 1 and 2

Glass Attached to Regulator and Intact

CAUTION
This procedure can be used only if the window is intact and attached to the regulator. The regulator lift arms are under tension and the weight of the window is required to neutralize the tension during motor removal to prevent serious injury. If the glass is not attached or is broken, refer to the appropriate procedure.

  1. Open the tailgate as a door with the window in the full-up position.
  2.
  3. Remove the inside handle, inner trim panel, water deflector and the left access hole cover.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the wire harness from the motor.
  6.
  7. Drive the center pin out of the motor rivet with a punch, then drill the rivet out with a 1 / 4 inch drill bit.
  8.
  9. Remove the bolts attaching the motor by working through the left access hole.
  10.
  11. Remove the motor through the left access hole.
  12.

To install:
  1. Lubricate the drive gears with white lithium soap grease that is approved to -20° F (-29° C).
  2.
  3. Attach the motor to the window regulator, make sure the drive gear properly engages the sector gear teeth before installing the attaching bolts.
  4.
  5. Install the motor to the tailgate inner panel using a U-nut and a 1 / 4 -20× 1 / 2 inch screw in place of the rivet drilled out.

Glass Not Attached to Regulator or Broken

CAUTION
This procedure must be used if the glass is broken or is not attached to the regulator. The regulator sector gear must be locked in position before removing the motor from the window regulator. 1. Remove the tailgate window regulator and motor as an assembly.
  2.
  3. Drill a 1 / 8 in. (3.2 mm) hole through the regulator sector gear and back plate. Do not drill the hole closer than 1 / 2 in (13 mm) to the edge of the sector gear or back plate.
  4.
  5. Install a 10-12 × 3 / 4 inch pan head sheet metal screw in the drilled hole to lock the sector gear in position.
  6.
  7. Remove the motor attaching bolts and remove the motor.
  8.

To install:
  1. Lubricate the drive gears with white lithium soap grease that is approved to -20° F (-29° C).
  2.
  3. Attach the motor to the window regulator, make sure the drive gear properly engages the sector gear teeth before installing the attaching bolts.
  4.
  5. Remove the screw locking the sector gear in a fixed position.
