Shock Absorbers

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Examine the shock absorbers following the Testing procedure given for front shocks in this information.

All Models
  1. Raise the rear end of the vehicle and support it with jackstands. Support the rear axle with the hydraulic jack to prevent stretching the brake hose.
  2.  
  3. Remove the nut from the lower end stud of the shock. Tap the shock free from the bracket.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the shock at the top by removing the bolts, nuts and the lockwashers. Remove the shock from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Install the shock and torque the upper bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm) and the lower nut to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).
