REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Full Size Cadillac

See Figure 1

1967-73 VEHICLES



  1. Remove the steering column lower cover.
  2.  
  3. Remove the defroster hose behind the radio.
  4.  
  5. Remove the radio knobs, washers and rings by pulling straight out.
  6.  
  7. Remove the nuts securing the control shafts to the panel.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect any wiring from the radio.
  10.  
  11. Remove the support bolts and remove the radio.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal.

1974-76 WITHOUT A.C.R.S

  1. Remove the 4 screws each which secure the lower steering column cover to its reinforcement and the instrument panel support.
  2.  
  3. Take the lower cover off.
  4.  
  5. Unfasten the screws which secure the lower ash tray bracket, then remove the two screws from the left-hand ash tray bracket.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the right-hand ash tray securing screws. Remove the ash tray assembly from the dash panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the knobs, washers, outer rings, and shaft retaining nuts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the radio-to-dash panel lower support brace nut from the back of the radio.
  12.  
  13. Loosen, but don't remove, the screw which secures the brace to the support, and turn the brace clockwise.
  14.  
  15. Slide the radio back from the instrument panel. Detach the speaker connector, power connector, and antenna lead from it.
  16.  
  17. Turn the dial side of the radio (front) so that it is facing down, and lower the left side of the receiver. Withdraw it through the ash tray opening.
  18.  
  19. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  20.  

1974-76 WITH A.C.R.S.Air Cushion Restraint System is a driver restriant system. Before servicing any component turn ignition switch to LOCK then disconnect the negative battery cable and tape terminal end to avoid accidental deployment.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to Lock.
  2.  
  3. Remove the negative (-) battery cable and tape its terminal end.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 3 screws which retain the glove box in the dash, but don't remove the two striker screws.
  6.  
  7. Remove the glove box partition screws, and set the glove box aside, without disconnecting the wiring.
  8.  
  9. Remove the tape storage compartment retaining screws and remove the compartment.
  10.  
  11. Remove the ash tray assembly retaining screws, pull the assembly out partway, unfasten the electrical leads, and remove the assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the knee restraint left trim screws.
  14.  
  15. Remove the screws, and loosen, but don't remove, the fifth screw (under the steering column) from the bottom of the knee restraint.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 4 knee restraint securing screws working from the tape storage compartment and ash tray openings.
  18.  
  19. Remove the knobs, washers, outer rings, and shaft retaining nuts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the radio-to-dash panel lower support brace nut from the back of the radio.
  22.  
  23. Loosen, but don't remove, the screw which secures the brace to the support, and turn the brace clockwise.
  24.  
  25. Through the knee restraint opening, disconnect the antenna lead, depress the locktabs and push the electrical connections upward to disengage them.
  26.  
  27. Clear the instrument panel support by turning the radio to the left. Slide the radio away from you, lower the front of the radio (dial), and withdraw it, front first, through the knee restraint opening.
  28.  
  29. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  30.  

1977-89 VEHICLES

See Figures 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13

  1. Remove the radio knobs and anti-rattle springs.
  2.  
  3. Remove the two hex nuts securing the bezel to the radio.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two center air conditioning outlet grilles. Remove the one screw in each outlet.
  6.  
  7. Remove the maplights and remove the center panel insert.
  8.  
  9. Unbolt and remove the radio from the panel.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect wiring.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  14.

Eldorado

For 1967-76 Eldorado procedures please refer to the 1967-76 Full Size Cadillac procedures.

1977-78 VEHICLES



  1. Remove the four screws attaching the steering column cover to the reinforcement.
  2.  
  3. Remove the four screws attaching the cover to the instrument panel cross support.
  4.  
  5. Remove the ash tray lower bracket screw.
  6.  
  7. Remove the two screws from the left side ash tray mounting bracket.
  8.  
  9. Working from the lower edge of the instrument panel, remove the ash tray right side attaching screw.
  10.  
  11. Remove the ash tray. Disconnect the bulb and the electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove the radio knobs, the anti-rattle spring, the control rings and the retaining nuts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the brace nut at the rear of the radio.
  16.  
  17. Loosen the brace supporting screw and rotate the brace to the right.
  18.  
  19. Slide the radio from the instrument panel and disconnect the wiring.
  20.  
  21. Rotate the dial side downward and remove the radio through the ash tray opening.
  22.  
  23. Reverse to install.
  24.  

1979-89 VEHICLES

See Figure 14

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the screws from the top of the instrument panel center insert.
  4.  
  5. Remove the radio knobs and remove the insert.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear window defogger switch to gain access to the left side mounting screw if so equipped.
  8.  
  9. Remove the mounting screw.
  10.  
  11. Remove the radio and disconnect the wiring. Reverse to install.
  12.

Seville

1976-79 VEHICLES



  1. Disconnect the negative battery ground.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the right forward screw which secures the fuel injection electrical control unit cover to the unit.
  4.  
  5. Remove the remaining three screws from the cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the three screws which secure the unit to the panel supports.
  8.  
  9. Carefully lower the control unit enough to disconnect the three electrical connectors from the left hand side and the hose from the front of the unit. Remove the unit.
  10.  
  11. Remove the screw securing the climate control outlet extension to the heater case.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the antenna.
  14.  
  15. Remove the radio support rod.
  16.  
  17. Remove the control knobs, anti-rattle springs, control rings and both hex nuts.
  18.  

The control knobs on radios with 8-track are retained with5/64in. allen screws.

  1. Remove the radio. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

1980-89 VEHICLES
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the screws from the top of the instrument panel center insert.
  4.  
  5. Remove the radio knobs and remove the insert.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear window defogger switch to gain access to the left side mounting screw if so equipped.
  8.  
  9. Remove the mounting screw.
  10.  
  11. Remove the radio and disconnect the wiring. Reverse to install.
