REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figures 1, 2 and 3

All Except 1986-89 Eldorado and Seville
  1. Scribe the hinge locations on the underside of the hood panel to aid in the positioning of the hood when it is reinstalled.
  2.
  3. Remove the screws and washers securing the hinge assemblies to the hood panel. On the Eldorado and Seville, remove the two screws from the side of the hood panel, one on each side, also disconnect the gas cylinder retaining clip if so equipped.
  4.
  5. Remove the hood with the aid of a helper, using care to avoid damage to the finish. Stand the hood on its rear corners or its side, using protective supports, otherwise sheet metal damage may result.
  6.

To install:
  1. With the aid of a helper, place the hood in position so that the hinges line up with the scribe marks made during removal, then install the attaching washers and screws at each hinge assembly and tighten.
  2.
  3. Carefully close the hood and check the alignment of the hood at the fender and grille front end panel opening.
  4.
  5. Adjust the hood latch mechanism and/or hood panel, if necessary.

ADJUSTMENT

Except 1986-89 Eldorado and Seville
  1. Loosen the hood attaching screws at each hood hinge. Elongated holes in each hinge provide fore and aft adjustment of the hood.
  2.
  3. Tighten the hinge to hood attaching screws on the both sides.
  4.
  5. Adjust the rubber bumpers so that the hood panel is flush with the fenders.
  6.
  7. Adjust the hood latch mechanism, if necessary.
  8.

1986-89 Eldorado and Seville
  1. Loosen the hood attaching bolts at each hood hinge. Oversized holes in the hinge provide for fore and aft adjustment of the hood.
  2.
  3. Tighten the hinge to hood attaching screws on the both sides.
  4.
  5. Adjust the rubber bumpers so that the hood panel is flush with the fenders.
  6.
  7. Adjust the hood latch mechanism, if necessary.
  8.

After the hood alignment is performed, sufficient load must remain on the front and rear center hood stop bumpers to eliminate hood flutter. This can be achieved by lowering the primary latch an additional1/8inch (3.175mm) for front flutter. For rear flutter the rear center bumper must be adjusted.
