Power Steering Reservoir

FLUID RECOMMENDATION

The power steering reservoir uses Dexron II® Automatic Transmission Fluid on all 1967-76 models. All 1977 and later models require GM power steering fluid, available at any Cadillac dealer or your local auto parts store.

LEVEL CHECK

See Figures 1, 2 and 3

Power steering fluid should be checked at least every 7,500 miles. The power steering pump is belt driven and has the dipstick built into the filler cap. To prevent possible overfilling, check the fluid level only when the fluid has warmed up to operating temperature and with the front wheels turned straight ahead. If the level is low, fill the pump reservoir until the fluid level measures full on the reservoir dipstick. When the fluid level is low, there is usually a moaning sound coming from the pump as the front wheels are turned, especially when standing still or parking. The steering wheel will also be more difficult to turn when fluid level in the pump reservoir gets low.
