Blower Motor With Air Conditioning

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1967-89 All Models Except Those Following

See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rubber cooling hose from the nipple and the blower motor.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector(s).
  6.  
  7. Remove the screws that secure the motor to the case, then twist the motor and remove from the assembly.
  8.  
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Use sealer as needed to make a water tight seal.
  10.

1975-76 Fleetwood (Rear Unit)

See Figure 6

The following applies to either the right or the left blower motor.

  1. Remove the trim panel inside the luggage compartment.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the double electrical connector at the motor.
  4.  
  5. Uncover and remove the five screws securing the blower motor to the housing.
  6.  
  7. Remove the blower motor and fan assembly.
  8.  
  9. To install, reverse the procedures above.

1979 Seville
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Jack up the front of the car and support it on jackstands. Remove the right front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the five screws securing the wheelhousing to the fender at the wheel opening.
  6.  
  7. Remove the two screws attaching the wheelhousing at the front.
  8.  
  9. Remove the three plastic retainers securing the wheel housing seal at the rear of the wheelwell, front of the wheelwell, at the fender, and forward of the wheelwell opening.
  10.  
  11. Remove the two screws behind the wheelwell securing the wheelhousing to the cowl brace.
  12.  
  13. Remove the battery and battery tray.
  14.  
  15. Remove the three screws and the retainer securing the wheelhousing to the radiator support under the horns.
  16.  
  17. Remove the wheelhousing damper upper mounting bolt and move the damper out of the way.
  18.  
  19. Remove the wheelhousing from the car. Some prying and bending may be necessary.
  20.  
  21. Remove the rubber cooling hose from the nipple and the blower motor.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the electrical connector(s).
  24.  
  25. Remove the screws that secure the motor to the case, then twist the motor and remove from the assembly.
  26.  

To install:
  1. Install the ground wire to the blower flange screw (at the 5 o'clock position).
  2.  
  3. Secure the capacitor to the blower flange screw (at the 5 o'clock position).
  4.  
  5. Place a bead of sealer around the opening where the blower will contact the case.
  6.  
  7. Guide the blower motor against the cowl and place on the locating dowel.
  8.  
  9. Install the five screws securing the blower to the case.
  10.  
  11. Install the right wheel house.
  12.  
  13. Reconnect the electrical connector lead to the motor.
  14.  
  15. Install the cooling hose on the motor and nipple.
  16.  

1980-85 Seville
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and remove the Hi-Blower assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the blower motor assembly.
  6.  
  7. To install, reverse the above procedures, reseal the blower mounting surface with sealer.
  8.  

1977-78 Eldorado
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Jack up the front of the car and support it on jackstands. Remove the right front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Cut along the inside of the rectangular stamped bead on the right fender filler.
  6.  
  7. Unbolt and remove the blower motor.
  8.  
  9. To install, reverse the above procedures, fold the flap up and reseal the opening with sealer.
  10.  

1979-85 Eldorado
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and remove the Hi-Blower assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the blower motor assembly.
  6.  
  7. To install, reverse the above procedures, reseal the blower mounting surface with sealer.
  8.  

1986-89 Eldorado and Seville

See Figure 7

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the strut tower brace.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wiring harness bracket.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the heater electrical connector, the cooling hose and then remove the motor mounting screws.
  8.  
  9. Tilt the blower motor in its case and disconnect the fan from the motor. Be careful not to bend the fan blades.
  10.  
  11. Remove the blower motor.
  12.  
  13. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
  14.
