Wiper Switch

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figures 1, 2 and 3

1967-73 - All Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Open the left front door to gain access to the screw securing the control switch to the instrument panel extension on the door.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the screw securing the control switch to the extension.
  6.  
  7. Pull the control switch out and disconnect the electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
  10.  

1974-76 Full Size Models, 1974-78 Eldorado and 1976-79 Seville

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the left hand vent outlet grille as described below:
    1. Using tool, J-24612 or a thin-bladed screwdriver, compress the release tabs in the vent.
    2.  
    3. Rotate the grille upward and remove the grille.
    4.  

  4.  
  5. Working through the outlet opening, remove the screw(s) securing the switch to the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Pull the wiper switch and electrical connector out of the panel, then disconnect it from the harness.
  8.  
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
  10.  

1977-89 Full Size Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the set screw in the left hand climate control door knob and remove the knob.
  4.  
  5. Remove the left hand vent outlet grille as described below:
    1. Using tool, J-24612-01 or a thin-bladed screwdriver, compress the release tabs in the vent.
    2.  
    3. Rotate the grille upward and remove the grille.
    4.  

  6.  
  7. Remove the 6 screws securing the bezel to the instrument panel.
  8.  

One screw is located inside of the climate control outlet.

  1. Remove the 2 upper and lower screws in the lower steering column cover.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the steering column seal on the lower surface and remove the bezel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screw(s) securing the switch to the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Pull the wiper switch and electrical connector out of the panel, then disconnect it from the harness.
  8.  
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
  10.  

1979-85 Eldorado and 1980-85 Seville
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 2 screws securing the insert applique to the instrument panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screw(s) securing the switch to the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Pull the wiper switch and electrical connector out of the panel, then disconnect it from the harness.
  8.  
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
  10.  

1986-89 Eldorado and Seville

The wiper control is located in a switch module on the instrument panel, to the right hand side of the steering column.

  1. Remove the instrument panel trim plate.
    1. Disconnect the air conditioning vent.
    2.  
    3. Remove the radio trim plate.
    4.  
    5. Remove the seven screws and remove the trim plate.
    6.  

  2.  
  3. Remove the two screws and pull the switch module out of the electrical connector in the instrument panel.
  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  6.
